New here. ALP has been crawling up since past 9 Months. A little nervous thinking about what lies ahead!

Hello All, I'm new here on this forum. I'm 36 year old and last year in October my LFT were severely elevated..I have been heavily drinking week before the tests and the past couple of years due to divorce and covid. In December AST, ALT and GGT returned to normal except for ALP which was 135ish that time. I had my blood work again last week. This time the ALP is sitting at 172. I'm going for a liver ultrasound next week but I'm little nervouse and disappointed as I have been eating liver friendly diet from last 8 months and was hoping for ALP to drop and not shoot up by 36 points.

Were you diagnosed with pbc? People with pbc trend towards a higher alk phos than the general population. Usually you are prescribed urso to contain the alk phos and progression of pbc.

There is no diagnosis as of now. I have an ultrasound scheduled for next week and then will go see my family doctor after that. I will talk to him and see if he wants to refer me to a gastroenterologist or he wants to order more tests such as AMA before making any conclusions or referrals!

Don’t worry too much until they run more tests. Chances are you don’t have pbc as this is a rare condition. There are other causes that may contribute to a higher alk phos. Alk phos can be attributed to 3 sources: Liver, Bones, and Stomach. So they will run more tests to figure it out. Just breathe and don’t jump to conclusions. There is nothing to worry about for now.
