Here is a list of what my hepatologist has tested for me in addition to the liver panel & other regular bloodwork

1) hep a, b immunity, if the immunity wears off, you have to get the vaccines again

2) vitamin D levels

3) Abdomen sonogram

4) Fibroscan (measures liver elasticity)

5) thyroid tsh

6) bone density scan

7) cholesterol panel

That’s about it. Your doctor should know what tests to order. You probably don't need a fibroscan. I only got them because I requested them for peace of mind.

My doctor never mentioned it to me. He said I don't really need one, but he didn't want me to stress. So he said, sure we can do it. Even went over the results with me right after. Explained how it works and what the results mean, etc very thorough and educational.

Hope this helps.

Every 3-6 months, according to the Standard of Care, patients with PBC should have liver panel done. I also have a CBC and a CMP done. Monitoring kidney functions is important and is a part of the CMP - comprehensive metabolic profile. In the beginning I would want to have my vitamin levels checked as well as my thyroid functioning tests. Vitamin checks could include, B, C, D, E, and calcium. If your levels are good, there is no need to take supplemental vitamins if your body doesn't need them. It's important to keep track of all of your lab results. You can easily do this in the PBC phone app. I hope you see your doctor in person at least every 6-12 months. Honestly, make sure he knows about PBC and how to treat someone with it. Often that comes down to just asking him. This care is a long term relationship. You want someone who knows what he's doing. You deserve the best care
