PBC and alcohol

Does anyone here drink alcohol in moderation who has PBC? Asking for a friend. ๐
Hi missingmy2
When I was diagnosed my consultant told my husband when he ask that I could as long as within recommended allowance. I personally chose not to apart from the odd glass of wine for special occasions.
I asked the specialist quite a few years ago and he told me that it was okay in moderation and within the Government (UK) guidelines. I enjoy an occasional glass of wine and find it relaxing but I never binge drink, mind at my age I am not likely to

As with the other two answers, I asked my consultant upon diagnosis and he said it was ok. However, Iโd always get a pint, and rarely finish half of it. I was never a big drinker, but I just seemed to lose the capacity for it altogether. Andy.
Yes, I do on special occasions usually my birthday, works Christmas party and when Iโm on holiday. I donโt like drinking at home and my partner doesnโt either. For me, being diagnosed relatively young has been a challenge as I do still enjoy a night out and loved having a drink before I was diagnosed but now Iโm always mindful not to put too much strain on my liver.
My hepatologist said it was okay to have a drink every now and then. I drink during holidays and special occasions or wine spritzers if I just want to have a drink to relax (a little alcohol with lots of sparkling water.)
Never been told not to in the 18 years of my diagnosis. I drink every weekend. My results are all stable at the moment, with absolutely no cause for concern.
I was told to have an odd drink was ok by my consultant but to be fair it makes me Ill so dont bother Hope you are ok and good luck
Same as majority for drinking alcohol..my consultant said a couple of glasses of good red won't do any harm and I have had PBC for 16yrs
My hepatologist never told me to stop drinking. I drink every weekend. I was diagnosed over 9 years ago, blood works are all good.
Although I was told by my Hepatologist that my PBC was NOT caused by alcohol, I chose to give up drinking altogether. My rationale was, why do I want to potentially cause more harm to my liver. It has been very hard not to toast at my daughter's wedding or at New Years eve, but I found out that life goes on, and as it was when I quit smoking, I take one day at a time.
I was on the point of cirrhosis at diagnosis and my consultant told me to never drink alcohol because the PBC was advanced.
Glass of wine now and then, usually add soda to it. No adverse affects and I've been stable for almost 6 yrs
I was told to drink moderately so I continued with up to 14 UK units per week. Gradually I've reduced this to less than half that, helped by alcohol free beer and cider, which has improved a lot in taste. Will probably just do special occasions in due course. In my opinion less is best!
I too was told that staying within the guidelines of weekly drinks was acceptable. I still do drink but will caution that when 1st diagnosed 7 years ago, I was very thoughtful about how much I was drinking and planned it much more around a dinner out with friends or occasion. I was sticking to no more than 2 drinks at a time and no more than 7 drinks (female) in a week. However, I recently noticed that I was starting to have a glass of wine before/after dinner, out with friends, when my adult kids are around, at the beach, etc... and it was becoming too much. I am back to closely monitoring my intake. Old ways creep up after a while so I would advise strict moderation and intention! I do still like the social part of drinking and find that if I think resist the impulse to pour more wine and just fill my glass with water or get a water bottle in place of a beer, I'm fine. Sometimes easier said than done
