Does anyone have problems drinking coffee with PBC?

I was diagnosed with PBC one month before my 60th Birthday in Sept 2012. I really like a cup or two of coffee in the morning but lately it seems to cause heart palpitations, makes my liver ache, and makes me anxious.

Elsaval, I had to give up coffee years ago, because of reflux. I've had to about stop all caffiene now because it makes dizziness worse. My neighbor has had to stop caffiene because of heart palpitations.I miss a good hot cup of coffee!

How about trying the half and half blend, less caffeine, but still full of flavor. I still drink my two cups in the morning, but a much weaker version and I use almond milk instead of reg milk. I hope you find a way. Judi

Try rice or oat milk instead, tastes way better and doesnt have any sediment

Mostly ok, but on completely random unknown times horrendous stomach pains and a run to the bathroom:( Good suggestion above, try half and half x

I drink all the decaf I want, unable to tolerate caffeine, in anything.

I used to drink quite a lot of coffee and had anxiety and heart palpitations, which at the time I didn't associate with drinking coffee, but looking back, I haven't had them since I stopped drinking coffee. I had a severe bout of pneumonia and it stoppped me smoking and could never drink coffee again either. Interesting, as I always put the palpitations down to the smoking, but it was probably the coffee!!!

Hello.

I've never been a big fan of coffee myself BUT I do like the odd cup. My husband did like a lot of coffee at work but decided to cut down. We have a cafetiere and buy the ground coffee, mainly the decaff one. I did once read that the ground is the best as opposed to the instant but I still buy both.

I have since PBC diagnose Dec 2010 had a coffee in the morning after breakfast and then one at teatime. I don't bother which one I have to be truthful as I have read that coffee in a small amount is good for the liver but not in excess as it can give one the shakes due to overdose of caffeine. (I think perhaps a small amount with one with PBC who maybe feels fatigued a lot (I don't these days) could be a slight boost.) If one who has consumed too much alcohol (( rarely drank pre-diagnose and don't at all now) reaches for the coffee (and it is said that a fry-up the following morning after the night before is good for 'coming round' - again I don't have fry-ups) is a good starter so what about one with PBC and coffee?

I think if you were to just have a weak coffee twice a day then you might find that is not so bad at all perhaps if you do still like coffee.

PS I've never had any problems since PBC diagnose with the 2 coffees a day.

I have had to stop drinking coffee as it gives me stomach problems and makes me feel unwell and I cant stand the smell of it anymore, tea also gives me bloated problems sometime so I am down to drinking cold drinks these days

Several years ago I spent four days in corony care.

Twice since then I have had to dial 999 and been taken to hospital with (because I can't remember the correct term) palitations and once even blacked out.

Thinking about it afterwards I I was aware that both times it happened after a treat of a cappuccino from M@S. I have since had the odd decaff coffee but am not really happy drinking it. I seem to be drinking more and more swheppes ginger ale. Even have it on my cereal now!

Thanks everyone for your comments. The palpitations are better because I haven't had coffee for a few days. I did hear coffee was good for the liver. I will try decaf.

since I was diagnosed with PBC, four months ago. I had to give up coffee: because my sleep was been interrupted with abdominal pain.
