Never ever sign a DNR——-

Just putting this on blast if I can help one person not go through what my poor mother did in a hospital setting I will try my hardest. NEVER EVER sign a DNR let your family or friends know your wishes because those three words can’t cost m your life.. US is driven by $$$$$ especially in our healthcare they need to cut costs wherever they can and it is inhumane how it’s being used. Sadly it happened to my mother no explanation while I begged and begged for care for her!!! If you have a DNR they can’t revive you so ICU won’t take you if you need critical care - if they can’t revive you their death ages go up then their quality care rating is effected and reimbursement are effected it’s all driven in money our care!!! Please do your research about DNR’s!!!

Morning....Yes, there is a fine line with DNR orders. They are usually tied to a document that might also outline other interventions the patient chooses not to endure. I have to assume there was someone designated to make these decisions for her when she was no longer able to do so. As far as you thoughts on ICU, yes, many feel that ICU is not appropriate for the person if the treatment goal is not appropriate for ICU or the same level of care can be received in another unit. I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope you find some peace in your heart soon.

As a social worker, I helped many people with this documents. They are not taken lightly by the staff members. I know it's hard to accept that some people just do not want to be subjected to medical interventions. My mom's spelled out many interventions she chose not to have. I was the designee. IT was difficult to carry out, but in the end, she was at peace. My hope is that you will find a way to accept that she has transitioned and will not have to be put through more medical interventions. I always have to ask, to what condition will they get bette???. Be well.

Hello thank you.... They didn’t disclose she wouldn’t be transferred to a critical care unit. My mother said to them she just doesn’t want to ever be brain dead on a machine. But do everything possible to help her. I just saw a consult note from the admitting Doctor Who spoke to her about the DNR where my mother explained just that - but this consult form from the Dr has she will never be qualified to go to a critical care unit. I also asked several times for it to be revoked and they never sent a doctor in. Her PBC Dr informed me from NYC that he can’t intervene and help if she had a DNR so my mother agreed to revoke it but they never sent in a Doctor in to reverse it. I asked again days later no one ever came in.

PS she needed critical care to provide the extra care she needed to give her a fighting shot because of the DNR she didn’t receive the care... :(

I know that is what you think. If indeed that extra care would have made a difference in the end treatment plan, she would have been transferred. It sounds to me that there was an expectation of her getting back to some semblance of normal living. With her albumin stores so low and her other issues, most likely there was not much hope for a long term recovery. Without a DNR, professionals are bound by law to do what ever needs to happen to attempt to save the person. Even if that means intubation, CPR and cracking of ribs, etc. Personally, I feel having a DNR in place makes perfect sense. If I'm not going to be assured a vibrant life after this medical treatment, I do not want to be on the planet. I hear your anger quite loudly and by rights I'd most likely be upset too. Usually there is not a disclosure of what level of care will be given regardless of end of life orders. Level of care is determined by the end goal. Sounds like they did the best they could with what she had. At some point decisions ned to be made. Everyone has the right to choose palliative care. Let the love for her shine through to your heart before this anger destroys you. I again, know how hard this is...stay close

Thank you but unfortunately this hospital is too worried about their rating then lives. I can’t even explain in words the care she received it was inhumane... I lived there 24/7 no monitoring she was drowning begged for a Dr they said there wasn’t one. The list goes on and on it was like a twilight zone!!!!
