Not sure it can be considered normal in PBC, but it does seem to happen to some people. I’ve read a few other posts on here.

I have a slightly raised level it started 3 years ago the upper normal level for my lab is (10) mine has been as high as 17 and as low as 9. I had an increase in blood tests to 3 monthly to see if it remained stable, and during that time I was sent for a MRI scan, thankfully that came back clear. My doctors always thought it was due to the liver regenerating, but it’s only after all the tests that they’ve confirmed it. If yours is out of range do discuss the results with your doctors.

Mine came back within the range, but it was remark from lab, that in case of pbc ( also virus hepatitis, pregnancy etc..)it could be slightly elevated.

Good to hear yours is normal. And that the lab recognised it could be slightly elevated.

Mine is slightly elevated and am awaiting an appointment with Consultant Hepatologist for an opinion on this. I had an MRI last August which showed nothing untoward and I feel ok. Not sure that it is normal in PBC and I want a specialist opinion. When I get an answer i will post it here. However getting an appt around here is difficult. Hope this helps

That’s a long wait for you, is it worth chasing them up, it seems those who shout loudest.... I was expecting to get referred to hepatology as that seems to be the normal way to go, but gastro was happy it was caused by regeneration of the liver. I only got the MRI because I questioned , why I had not been given one under the circumstances, it seemed the right way to go.

My ALP number increased slightly as well so they now decided I’am not fully responding to URSO, so started Bezafibrate last week, so far so good no side effects.

Do let us know how you get on, hope your keeping well.

I am sure your mri will be ok, i asked my hepatologist and it kind of normal to have slightly elevated alpha fetoprotein by pbc. It was also standing in my lab results.( pbc, pregnancy with twins , etc..)

Tel us know how you get on.
