Any connection between dairy and itching?

Was reading a few of the itching posts. I wanted to share that i had added dairy into my diet in march, and my symptoms got worse - very itchy. I went off of it in June and the itching has gotten much better. This could all be in my head - or maybe it is indeed the dairy! Sharing in case this helps someone else. Happy Friday everyone -

PS i’ve Been on Urso since 1/17 and ocaliva since 10/17.

Anything is worth a try other than more medication going to try it myself as from tomorrow no more dairy or at least cut down. By the time we have cut out all the maybes we will be on water only. Take care

Yes! I cannot have dairy because it causes itching. I can't do dairy, meat, eggs or gluten. And I would love, love, love a cheeseburger or a steak. It's not worth it though because if it's causing that much itching, what's it doing inside to me?

I don't think it's in your head at all. Someone said those are inflammatory foods and that makes sense why it would cause itching then.

All the inflammatory foods cause me some type of discomfort. I will itch, ache, burn, have diarrhea, feel lousy, foggy. J.J. Virgin is a nutrionalist that has done lots of research on inflammatory foods. She suggests an elimination diet of Soy, Corn, Peanuts, Gluten, Sugar, Dairy,Eggs. I was almost free of all these when i started. Elimination of my soy free eggs made a huge difference for me. Are we having fun yet????

The ONLY dairy that seems to not cause me problems is a Raw Goat cheese from Sierra Nevada farms. They have a White Cheddar and a Monterey Jack that are divine. I like to grate it over Explore Asia black bean pasta with a little garlic powder and Australian olive oil. Kinda like adult mac n' cheese

THANK YOU for the cheese recommendation. I don't eat cow cheese. I've found any milk products cause me to be stuffed up. I used to have chronic sinus headaches and snored and all that went away when I cut out dairy.

Cow cheese has a protein called casein that is very similar in its molecular form to gluten. There is a theory that it, like gluten, can trigger autoimmunity in some people. This protein is not in sheep and goat cheeses, so I still eat cheeses like manchego, goat cheese, and pecorino romano instead of parmesan. That works for me. Your cheddar suggestion made my day, as I LOVE cheddar. It is one of the few things I occasionally cheat with.

Glad to hear that my suggestion was helpful. Do look for that cheese. I think it has become one of my main protein sources. I have given up so many tasty treats over the years, so it warms my heart when i find one that doesn't cause me problems. thanks!

Hi, I cut out dairy a couple of months ago, and my itching is much less now 😉 (I was a cheesesaholic!) It seems to make a difference for me, but no doctor has told me to do it, I just did it on my own. It's worth a try! Good luck 😉
