Ibuprofen : Is it ok to take ibuprofen small... - PBC Foundation
Ibuprofen
Has your dr not discussed what you can take? My dr said Tylenol, minimum dose & only if absolutely needed. I have taken one within this last year. I think you will find that our drs differ in their opinions on pain relievers. Of course, neither is without risks to the liver. I wouldn’t advise you either way. Maybe Robert will answer this for you. Hope you feel better🦋
My doctor said that I should avoid Ibuprofen as a choice, but with most things in our disease everything in moderation. I was told tylenol (parametcol) was ok as long as dosage was not exceeded. I take ibuprofen if my pain is severe, but I don't take it long term, as I can tell it bothers me. So, unless you absolutely have to, it should be avoided, but a small dose isn't going to bother you. It also depends on your stage of disease too how much it will bother you, or if you have blood clotting issues. Ibuprofen can make your more susceptible to bleeding. Take care.
I was told paracetamol only when I was in great pain from a spur of bone growing into my sciatic nerve. I did beg but every specialist I saw over 9 months said to take nothing else. This was 6 years ago so things regarding pain may have changed. If you can, get through today with rest and telephone your doctor for advice first thing in the morning.
I think it's a quality of life issue. I told my dr that if I absolutely needed to take an ibuprofen I did. She said "ok". I take 1 and wait a while and see if it helps. If I have to I will take the second. But never more than that. I haven't dropped dead yet. Hahah!
I feel your pain🙁. I broke my second toe 2 weeks ago and took one Advil while icing it etc.. in my experience Tylenol doesn't help with that kind of inflammation pain. ( just MY experience only)
I agree with others who point to quality of life decisions we each have to make. Hope you've gotten relief by now and that you can manage back pain with ice/ moist heat etc..
I have arthritis along with PBC and my doctors suggest ibuprofen and not Tylenol. I take two at night and have no issues and my liver numbers are good so it doesn’t seem to be affecting me negatively.
I had a hair line fracture in knee & hepatologist said a little ibruprofen here & there was okay. But I think it depends on what stage your pbc is in.
