My hepatalogist started me on Choelestramine yesterday. My nose has bleed 3 times, I am constipated and my whole body was on fire. And not the crazy fire that normally comes with my itch. I spent 3 hours in a cool / cold lavender epson salt bath last night. Not only was a itching but my body was on fire! It was horrible has anybody else experienced this with Choelestramine. I did not drink it today I did not want to be more miserable, nurse practitioner is supposed to call me tomorrow.

Hi Bobbiesitzman, I started taking cholestyramine in December twice daily. I still have the itch, but not as bad as it was and it makes me constipated but I have never experienced the symptoms you are describing. I am so sorry that sound awful! I hope you got some advice from the nurse practitioner. Please let me know how you get on.

I was so excited to try something for this crazy itch. My nurse practitioner told mne to wait a week and try 1/2 a dose. She has never heard of anybody getting bloody noses from it. I have itched for 4 years. I have lots of little things I do that eases the itch. It never takes it away completely. A try and use holistic alternatives. I think, I will stick with lukewarm Epson salt lavender bath and a sensual oils. I was diagnosed the end of January was not on any medications and now I'm taking 6 different ones I think my body just an overload.

I know, it is hard to adjust to all the medication. I was starting to think that the cholestyramine wasn't helping my itch as I still itch a lot. But then I didn't take it one day and I was awake all night itching so it must be doing something.

I'm glad it's helping you. I'llj j give it aanother try in a week. It amazes me how all these medications affect is also differently.

One of the most prevalent side effects of cholestyramine is constipation. In fact, years ago when I had my gall bladder removed I was having a terrible time with diarrhea. I couldn't figure out what was safe to eat and what wasn't. I read on line that a lot of people had this problem following gall bladder surgery and they turned to cholestyramine to control it.

One time the pharmacy gave me a generic version of the drug and I had trouble eating/drinking it. It wouldn't dissolve. When I took it back to the pharmacy, the pharmacist told me that the medicine part was always the same but each brand had different binders and the binders could be causing the problems. Maybe you would want to try a different manufacturer of the drug to see if you didn't have the same reaction?

Good to know. Thank you. I'm waiting a few more days and I'm going to try 1/2 a dose.

They just increased my cholestrimine to 12 a day.. been taking doxepin and trazadone at night..Most of the time doesn't work.. I'm looking into holistic..Cbd oil with some THC..I read some studies that it may help with the puritus.. let's hope,,!

Isn’t thc harmful to the liver?

I leave in Colorado where both THC & CBD are legal. There are more dispensers here than there are Starbucks. I actually have tried both. I do not like the effects of THC, so it's not something I use regularly. I have however used it when the Itch is so incredibly bad that I'm going out of my mind. You do have to be careful if you are using edibles because of their process in making them. I worked with a woman who owns a company who explained everything to me. healthyhoneys.co I do use CBD to help with itch. I buy it in bath salts and in a lotion. You can buy it in a flower form to smoke it also. It does not have the effects of THC it is not psychoactive. It does help you to relax so you can manage the itch but the edge does not go completely away. It also helps with pain, depression and sleep.

I asked my Hepa Dr. Last week if it was ok. He had no problem with me using it. He was impressed with my knowledge regarding edibles and how they were processed.

I think it took weeks! But to be honest I still itch a lot and some days it is still unbearable. However, I am even worse if I do not take it. Hopefully it will work for you, it is still early days.
