Elevated Enzymes

If our enzymes and bilirubin are in range can we still have itching.

I have prickly skin but nothing like what my liver family is describing.

I get itchy sometimes when I work out but so far I’m not complaining

Hi Jennyhadenough,

My Alk-phos went up 5 points from 6 weeks ago. This last labs it was 162. Everything else in normal range except AST. It's 13. Don't know what that means.

Anyway, when I exercise or if I have a hot flash and perspire, I itch a little too. I don't get why but it does happen. My arms and legs itch. How you been feeling?

The Liver Foundations round table discussion...Dr Gish says AST & ALT concern the liver cells. ALP & bilirubin concern ducts.

According to my lab range for AST, yours is normal. 14-36

Thanks gwillistexas,

AST result came back in the red. Guess it's considered low side of normal. My doc doesn't seem concerned, as in she hasn't called me. With PBC an elevated AST is a worry. Wasn't sure about slightly low AST.

Thanks again,

Stella ❤

That’s a good question. Sometimes I don’t understand labs. I had a glucose marked high & it was only 101 fasting. And I know that’s not high. Hope all is good😊

Please talk to your doctor because it could be your medications or it could be your medical condition. I’m itching for the last two years and on the process of finding answers. It was under control by antihistamines for 13 years out of 15 of using Ursofalk.

Hi Hidden

My blood results are usually only just elevated I think my last ALK was 137 (normal 130) but even with a cocktail of medication I still feel the so called itch of PBC. If my memory serves me well I remember reading somewhere (sorry not to be able to give you a link) that there is no correlation between the stage of the disease and the itch.

Hello I had itching hands and and feet even before diagnosis when my liver function tests were normal, I thought I had a skin condition but it later turned out to be pbc. I think it would be worth seeing if your doctor can help.Jane

The last time that I saw my Dr I believe that he told me that all of my enzymes are great and that any symptoms that I have are not liver related and to see my primary. I’m fine. I’m really asking this question out of curiosity for members that are itching badly.
