TSH

New blood work shows my levels are high (31.50). Before starting Ursodoil last November, I was within the normal range. With my foggy brain I'm having trouble remembering if this is just another side effect of PBC. I also have a drop in my platelet count -- seems that that's just another autoimmune "thing." Anyone else have a rise in their TSH numbers?

Are you a newly diagnosed pbcer?

Most of the people with pbc has thyroid problem as well, I'm one of them .. tsh high means you might have hypothyroid problem..

you have to check with your endocrinologist please..

Pbc mostly effects endocrine system !

I have my bloodwork in about 10 days. It'd be the first time I'll be testing my thyroid since I've been diagnosed with PBC last August. I am on Urso since 11/2016. I'll update this post with the test results in a couple of weeks.

Best to you!

I would check this with the experienced advisors at the 'PBC Foundation' - see logo-link at top of page. They are lovely and knowledgeable. On the website you will see the links for phone and email contact. It might help to have all your details: letters, results etc, to hand. I'm not familiar with what you describe and can't, personally, help much.

There is also a separate community on 'Health Unlocked', for thyroid issues. Why not talk to them as well.

Although I know that the 2 separate autoimmune issues of PBC and thyroid problems can often occur together (lots of people with one autoimmune condition, have others), I have not heard what Sachin says ... that PBC mostly affects the endocrine system.

PBC affects the liver: the antibodies attack the miniscule biliary tubules of the liver, so that bile cannot be collected properly, and so gets into the blood; PBC also causes gradual scarring and deterioration of the liver. To my knowledge, most things attacking the thyroid are not PBC related.

NB If you don't get many responses, post again in the week, as things can be quiet on here at weekends. But do talk to the 'PBC F' people, they are lovely.

Take care

My thyroid went all out of whack for no reason last year. Tsh was 15.75. My medication was raised then i went the other way tsh 0.07 with only a slight change in dosage. I am now on exactly the same dose as last year and levels are nomal. Go figure.

We dont digest well with PBC so possibly not digesting thyroid meds well and then somthing happens and we do.

You need to speak to your doctor.
