I am going through ill health retirement process now. My matron has completed her part, i have completed my part and my gp has filled one in along with occy health doctor in which part c has been completed twice by 2 doctors in which was not planned. Lack of comunication but im hoping it helps more. I worked in mental health and over the last 4 years have suffered severe depression on and off but last twelve months has been severe. It all came to a head with all the historic abuses on the tv and with complex cases coming through rehab i just can not do my work anymore. Im not prepared to tell my story but i had a very traumatic childhood and kept my self busy over the years working and bringing up my lovely children whom now are adults. What i have found is going with my partner who is a landscape gardner to some gardening jobs has saved my sanity and having my dog who is only 2 years has got me out when i really did not go through the door. I dont know if i will get ill health retirement but my gp and matron are the ones that fully support me and been there for me. Any one else from mental health services going through ill health retirement xx

Hi Charliejones01

I am so sorry to read your post, it seems that you have had a tough time and then to work in mental health is amazing. I fully empathize with the resurgence of memories because of the historic reporting of abuse on the TV. Thank heavens for being able to work with your hands, a good partner, children and dogs, a life saver indeed.

Sadly I do not think we can be of much help on this forum. Here we struggle with an auto immune disease of the small bile ducts in our livers so there is not much experience of dealing with ill health retirement related to mental health. I wonder if you make a search for mental health issues you may find a forum with more support.

I hope you are successful with your ill health process.

best wishes
