Hi, I haven't driven for a few years but a chum is offering to put me on her insurance so I can borrow her car. It occurred to me, should PBC be reported to the DVLA? I was was just a bit worried about the fatigue/brain fog aspect. Obviously I wouldn't be driving when unwell, but I was worried that if anything did go wrong, the insurers could refuse to pay out because I hadn't declared it. Anyone have any experience with this?

Hello weavergirl.
No you don't have to report you have PBC to the DVLA. I couldn't find it on the list when I was once looking.
BUT it depends on how you are yourself with PBC. I don't seem to have fatigue these days (did in 2010 the year I was diagnosed) nor any issues with thinking so I'd be fine.
You'll have to look on DVLA site, they list health conditions/problems you can use as a guidance.
Hi weaver girl,
No you don't have to report pbc. I have recently decided to stop driving in the dark, after feeling very disoriented on a recent trip. I've never particularly liked driving after dark , but nothing like that last trip. I'm Ok in the town it just seems to be the headlights approaching that panics me. I don't know if this is because of my pbc, although I do seem to find it harder to concentrate generally now.
If you're worried about your insurance maybe you could just phone the company and tell them. I had a heart attack nearly 3 years ago and, once I was given the all clear to drive again, I phoned the insurance company expecting my premium to shoot up, but I was amazed when she said that's fine, we'll just put a note on your records. No additional premium, and same cover as before.
