I have been under a gastroenterologist at Wrexham hospital, but unfortunately he is better than useless ! ( neglected to to tell me I had PBC for 2yrs, then when he did, he gave me a leaflet about PBC, & advised me to go on to the National Liver Trust website for further information!!! )
After seeing him another couple of times, I decided to ask my own GP if I could be referred to a Dr Andrew Sutton at Ysbyty Gwynedd ( who I've heard good reports, in his dealings with PBC patients) that was 18 months ago, & I've just received an appointment to see Dr Elfandi, who I've never heard of, so I don't want to accept the appointment & travel a distance if this Dr is no better at treating patients with PBC.
I know this maybe a long shot, but thought it was worth an ask.

I'd suggest contacting the PBC Foundation. I had some really good advice regarding certain hospital options when I had some concerns a couple of years ago. Also, I think I read somewhere that there is a preference not to discuss consultants, medical professionals, by name on this site so you may not get the information you need on here. Wishing you all the best, Cx.
I see Dr Sutton at Bangor and he is brilliant, ring them up and ask if you can see Dr Sutton, i dont know the one you are going to see but will say dont go to DR Evans in Llandudno he is a plank,
Brilliant, you will really like him, he actually looks you in the face and listens, my last one kept telling me i was getting better, i was told i went from having severe PBC to what he ended up telling me was now a mild dose, i went to DR Sutton and found i now have fibrosis, coeliac disease and a bonkers thyroid.
Feeling really positive now that I am able to see a consultant who actually knows what they're on about.
My liver was found to be fibrotic on the Fibroscan, & I have an under active thyroid. Is ' bonkers' the medical term for your thyroid or just the way it acts ?? π
My thyroide keep going over active and then under active so it's me that calls it bonkers.
When i had my fibroscan mine was 19.4 i think, and the person who did it at bangor said it indicated cirrhosis but Dr Sutton requested ultra sounds and said it is still working correctly so fibrosis
I would ring and ask if you could change your appointment to see DR Sutton, I did the same i asked my GP to refer me to him, I do know he has patients with all stages of PBC, oh and his name is Jonathan Sutton.
Hi Dieselwales, frankly I'd be lodging an official complaint about the GI doctor! Ask your GP why the referral to doctor you had asked for wasn't made. See if you can look this Dr Elfandi up on registry site for his education history , specialist certification s, who knows maybe he & this dr Sutton are partners in same office ( recommend keep the appointment)
Thanks for the response Belliver, I now have an appointment with the specialist I requested, apparently my GP had requested a referral with Dr Sutton, but in an endeavour to get waiting times down, they provided me with an earlier appointment , with another consultant, they were happy to change it for me when i rang them directly, & I'm more than happy to wait a little longer to see someone who knows what they're talking about π
