I have recently been diagnosed with PBC and overlap if AIH. I'm on medication and wondered if I will be ok to travel abroad.

Travelling abroad
Hi, I have Pbc and diabetic also underactive thyroid etc, I'm taking the medication too so long as your dr says your fit to travel there shouldn't be a problem just remember to declare all your illnesses to insurance so your coveted and look around as it does vary.
Take your tablets in your carry on as suitcases can go missing.
Have a great holiday.

Hi Starfish,
I travel as often as possible! If you feel well and your doc says it's ok then go for it.
I use Saga for my travel insurance and ensure they know of the name change of PBC as Cholangitis.
Have fun!
I travel often and have my pharmacy in luggage. I have never been questioned but If I was they can read the labels on the pill bottles showing the drug name. With todays technology, it could be googled on the spot so they could read what the meds are for. I make sure the meds are on me at all times while traveling so they do not get lost. In my purse or carry on bag. Have a fun safe trip!
Take your medication properly and all should be perfect. And try not to think about it all too much. Just enjoy life.
Yes - I just came back from travelling abroad no issues. Just make sure you have health insurance coverage when you go - just in case (but I'd do that anyway, even without my PBC)
Hi, Starfish. I'm responding just to let you know that I too have been recently diagnosed with PBC and most definitely intend to travel. I asked my physician yesterday and she said there was no reason to restrict my lifestyle in any way. The more activity, travel and enjoyment the better. Her advice was to simply plan for a little more down-time to nap or rest than I had prior to the PBC symptoms arising.
Most of the larger insurance companies here in the US exclude pre-existing conditions from all but the highest (most costly) level but otherwise cover accidental falls, a viral illness, food poisoning, or vehicle accidents and the like.
Let me know if you encounter any difficulties or great deals.
Best regards & be well!
Thank you so much for your reply. I still have high liver inflammation at the minute and my consultant is really trying to get meds right. I have insurance and feel well apart from tiredness & dreaded night itch but the sun helps so I believe 10 days on a sunbed on a quiet beach would help!
Its all been a shock and both me & my husband really need the break.
Hope you are coping well x
Hi! A 10-day holiday at the beach sounds like the best treatment for you and your husband. I know what you mean by the shock, stress and inflammation. We are a long-married couple (37 years) and while my husband has had some serious health issues, I never have. He really hasn't taken it well, even with the reassurances that I'm likely to live a normal life span.
The night time itch and daytime fatigue takes some getting used to, but I keep remembering how lucky we are that it isn't something worse. I hope you feel better and get away to the beach. Sunshine and the ocean waves are a cure-all for me.
Take care and feel better.
