RIFAMPACIN

Does anyone take rifampacin for the dreaded itch? I have been on it for approximately a year now & been told today my pharmacy can no longer get it & I will need to speak with doc once the weekend is over. Took them so long to get something to work & dont know where they will go from here as they have already exhausted all other meds available.

Hello evelyn1.

I have found the NICE site that has this Rifampicin on. I am not familiar with it at all. Apparently it seems it is still available (scroll to the bottom) and could well be that the pharmacy you have chosen to get the prescription from isn't supplying it. Is your prescription a brand or generic? Can make a difference.

I found out more information myself 2yrs ago from a pharmacist I rang regarding the urso I was informed I could not have as Destolit (brand name) so took the info I had to my GP who then did some checking there and then in surgery.

Meanwhile you can always ring round some chemists in your area and see what a pharmacist there has to say. You will of course need the exact details as in the med and mgs from the prescription for your enquiry.

Hi evelyn1. I am only getting to read your post tonight. I have been taking Rifampicin since being diagnosed (late 2015) and just recently got my repeat prescription without any difficulties. Although my Pharmacist did query with me after the second month as to why I was taking it over such a long period of time, as he explained to me that its a type of antibiotic. But once I explained that I had been diagnosed with PBC he was content to continue on dispensing it to me.

Hopefully by now you will have got some answers as to why your Pharmacist can no longer get it. So please let me know how you got on, because like you its working for me and wouldn't want to have to stop taking it either.
