Consultant Hepatologist

Hello All

I'm thoroughly sick to death of the rubbish service that I have had at my local hospital and want to find a privately practicing hepatologist in the Manchester area.

Any recommendations?

What's a hepatologist? I see a gastro. The private consultants here in Yorkshire for my knee ( only giving an example). Were the same ones you see for NHS. They just do both. You might struggle & be better going further a field.

Hi, a hepatologist is a liver specialist. A gastro deals with the whole of the gastric system, including the liver.

Hi, I attend Leeds, St James's and the liver department consultant and her team are excellent. Just ask for a referral there. Train straight from Manchester to Leeds. I only live 15 miles away but my local is 5 which I refuse to attend. Good luck.

I too had to make a private appointment (due to NHS refusing to see me for 9 months after my liver was scanned as found to be fully chirrosed)

I had PBC so I went to a specialist in Manchester who came from the Freeman Newcastle team who are themselves world experts in PBC. this man is clearly good for patients who have other issues too.

Mr Alistair Makin (gastro Ent helped me and I would recomend without hesitation. I located via someone in the medical profession, he is well known. Google him.

Thanks so much for this. I will certainly google MR Alistair Makin.

best wishes
