Hi there! I Was diagnosed in 2010 with PBC via biopsy and positive AMA. At that time my ANA was negative, it is now positive and I actually have normal LFTS which I did not have in 2010. Is anyone familiar with P80 coilin? It was listed next to my ANA results. Thanx!

Not familiar with this .......are you in the UK?
Hi tdave,
This might help: medscape.com/viewarticle/51... - there's a paragraph referencing p80 coilin:
"Autoantibodies are generally believed to present a hallmark for the diagnosis of AIH, but up to 20% of patients with AIH present without ANA, ASMA, or LKM1.[10] ANAs represent the least specific serum autoantibodies for the diagnosis of chronic liver diseases and are also found in up to 30% of elderly healthy controls, up to 10% of pregnant women, and up to 30% of patients with malignancies.[48] ANAs in the serum of patients with PBC are not a marker of AIH-PBC overlap syndrome, but are found at considerable rates in PBC patients without any further signs of AIH. In contrast, ANAs with a specific immunofluorescence pattern of multiple nuclear dots directed against Sp100 (five to 10 dots) or Coilin p80 (two to six dots) are rather specific although less sensitive for PBC.[48] In a small subgroup (3.9%) of 233 patients with PBC, the presence of SLA autoantibodies was a marker of AIH-PBC overlap syndrome with a good response to immunosuppressive therapy.[49]"
So it looks like it's a marker specific to PBC.
Hello, well I try not to look too much into certain things out on the net but I haven't heard of this P80 coilin in any context nor on this site previously.
I Googled and as I am in the UK I only looked up as such. On the Birmingham Uni site I found a table which lists ANAs. I know I had the ANA check along with the AMA and to my knowledge some others which I have no idea of as I never asked. I only know about the ANA as when the consultant took the AMA he wrote on is letter to the GP (I got a copy off my GP) the results of both (my ANA was negative) when he diagnosed me with PBC Dec 2010. I had no biopsy.
I noticed the AMA check is on the table and that states that PBC could be the association with it. Apparently as far as I understand from the info is that P80 coilin is connected with ANAs so it might be a standard check and for all I know at some point in my early days just prior to being diagnosed with PBC or even just after I might have had this check too. I have posted the link but I'd not really look too much into it myself. I'd ask you doctor about it so you have a more accurate explanation.
