Hi, I was just wondering does anyone else get quite a few chest infections. Have been diagnosed with pbc for 3 years, it seems that whenever I get a cold I end up getting a chest infection & wondered if this is common. Thanks. Laura
Chest infections & Pbc: Hi, I was just... - PBC Foundation
Chest infections & Pbc
I don't have this issue with chest infections. I was just diagnosed this year, but probably have had the disease for close to 10. I am stage 2. I do seem to have lots of sinus issues though. Actually ever since I went on Vitamin D, and B-12 I don't get sick near like I used to. I used to get sick ALL the time. Of course lots of time I thought I was sick, I probably had fatigue from PBC. But I used to get sinus infections all the time. I get stuffed up now but they seldom go into infection anymore.
Yes, I get chest infections and quite often loose my voice along with an absolutely sole destroying cough as it goes on for weeks. I hardly ever used to get colds but now I seem to pick up every bug going. I have to be really careful and make sure I keep my hands clean particularly when lve been out and about. If I feel a cold coming on I'm streaming my face and drinking hot water to stop it in its tracks. I believe Boots have brought out a nasal spray which kills a cold as soon as you feel it.
As soon as i get any signs of a cold i take Echinacea must take straight away.
Funny this I've just lost my voice again its beginning to happen regularly. Never used to. Makes you think?
Thanks everyone. Had flu jab this year. Yesterday diagnoised with chest infection & asthma - could hardly breathe. Have a terrible cold coming for nearly 3 weeks now.
I have a very bad cold and chest infection at the moment, the second this year. How I don't know as I haven't been out of the house for a while through bad bad joint pain.
For a several years before I was diagnosed I would get bronchitis once a year followed by a cough for a week or two. I am now stage four and I get bronchitis or pneumonia at least 3 times a year but the raggedy cough stays with me for a month. It is draining.
Hi I have the same problem. Ever since I was diagnosed with PBC approx 3 yrs ago every cold has ended up a chest infection, despite having my flu injection and the pneumonia injection mentioned in another reply. It takes on average 7 weeks to clear with antibiotics. My doctor has told me that because of the PBC it takes me much longer to recover, however I need to see the doc sooner lol. I always think it's just a cold and it will pass but it doesn't . I think, although we all suffer from PBC, we experience the symptoms in varying degrees. Some people on this site are much worse than I am while others have almost no symptoms. Hope this helps
I had terrible symptoms in my 2nd pregnancy, itching was unbearable thankfully after he was born the itching stopped but my phosphate levels went up to 1200! Am now 250 ish which is good, occasional right rib ache (well thats what I call it!) but apart from that and the occasional fatigue I'm fit and well. Whenever I get a cold I leave it too late I think, I keep thinking I'll feel better tomorrow!
Thanks once again for all the posts, nice to know I'm not alone xx
I too have had sinus infections over the years. 2 times had pneumonia. B 12 D 3 zinc magnesium and Mucinex keep me going. PBC 7 years stage 1.
I had a series of chest infections and so my doctor ordered a blood test which found the pbc. Since taking urso I have had colds but they have not developed to chest infections. I also get sinus. Hard to know whether pbc is causing this _ I have an open mind on this
hi i have suffered from chest infections for many years and the first really bad chest infection (i was ill for approx 6 weeks) was a good few years before i was diagnosed with PBC. i was diagnosed with bronchiectasis last year and this year alone i have had 4 chest infections every chest infection leads to two weeks of antibiotics and if i am really lucky steroids as well. i have never thought of link between PBC and my chest problems and have simply put it down to weakened immune system.
regards
caz
I have lost my voice for nearly 3 weeks now, it is exhausting and draining but I have never even felt unwell with it (no more than usual anyway!) PBC stage 4.
I have been stressed as my dear Dad has just been diagnosed with Primary Liver Cancer, Cirrhosis of the liver and a 7cm tumour in his liver so I just put it down to that.
Dad is the primary carer for my Mum who has Parkinson disease. Dad has never smoked or drunk alcohol in his life and now this.
With me needing a transplant and now this our family and me are all a mess.
We moved them from their 36 square double storey house in to a 9 square single storey home on the weekend.
We organised more services to help them and then then bank and utilities along with the packing and lifting I'm now extra exhausted.
I think my disappearing voice is more stress, the doctor said it was pharangitis but I need to go back as it has gone on too long.
Sorry to go of subject 😨
