I am a Naturopathic Doctor and was alway told a tongue like mine was sign of liver issues... Never really thought much. Wondering how many of you have the big crack down the center. Maybe it is a sign now makes since since the PBC diagnoses

I've always had that Mickey. Always. Never thought about it.. and I go to the dentist A LOT! . I think sometimes we attribute everything to this liver condition. I don't. I don't like to freak myself out. People have tons of aches and pains and are not always sick. Ask any doctor. :-)

Would you take a photo and send it to me I am trying to help doctors understand this and how this might link up because if we can point to that as something common we might be on to something as everyone tells me there is no signs or common links I disagree! Sometime it's dentist and eye doctors who can spot things sooner than later! research.pbc@gmail

Thanks sooo much

I don't appear to have a crack down the middle of my tongue. I have PBC/AIH Overlap Syndrome and I am AMA negative/SMA positive. Hope this helps.

I have what the Dr calls geographic tongue.

patches of taste buds fall off and it moves around my tongue. Very uncomfortable

Hello.

Well I certainly don't have any such cracks or crevices in my tongue. I just have PBC and I do go to the dentist for regular check-ups.

I brush my tongue gently at night and I don't think it looks abnormal in any way.

I do think it is easy to jumpt to conclusions and attribute a lot of things to PBC but though some can develop due to having PBC (ie bone problems due to lack of absorption of certain vitamins (A & D for eg) which then has a knock on effect causing bone issues), I don't think every ache or pain or certain odd looking things (ie tongues in this case) are anything at all to do with having PBC.

Skywalker,

That is what my Doctor told me 20 years ago and told me we don't know why people have it! So I think that was a sign no one connected to PBC !

I'm not so sure about a PBC connection Micky1964! Perhaps most things that are encountered are connected to PBC when it shouldn't be, who knows! My tongue is mainly geographical on my right hand side, and nothing I do changes it.... I use to worry about it, but gave up.... lol.... ran out of worrying energy! It's not sore and it doesn't cause me any problems, it just looks like it's sore or something.... Been like it about 4 years now.

They say that a tongue can mirror your health, but I don't think this has a PBC connection, who know perhaps in the next decade it will be a regular symptom lol xxx

Take care

My tongue is almost always coated with a thick yellow film I have asked the Gastroenterologist about this he tells me he has no idea, which is the general answer to most of my questions regarding PBC If you have a geographic tongue (lots on Google about this) it could be a number of things however I think a clear patch on the left side of the tongue can indicate a liver problem

I was diagnosed by my doctor wit geographic tongue 20 years ago and told it was nothing I feel that Gastroenterologist never look at it as a early sign of PBC but it is the more people I talk to! I as a N.D. understand skin is continuous! Most disease starts on the inside and works its way out so if you think your tongue looks bad what must the tissue inside look like scary. It has to with stage and severity and if your under good management that i why I posed this question for research thank you for you input any other info on your condition would be appropriate please send to my email research.pbc@gmail.com

Hi Mickey 1964 I am due to see the gastroenterologist tomorrow and now have lots of questions to ask him, thanks to this site I feel relieved somewhat that there are lots of people out there with PBC/AIH overlap will certainly email you when I have unraveled the consultation results for any advise you could give
