Hi flowerpower. This drug trial has been going for a few years now and the results from Phase 3 have recently been released. It is the first drug in more than 20 years to have real promise as an effective treatment for PBC so there is genuine excitement in the PBC community. I was lucky enough to be recruited into the Obeticholic Acid (OCA) trial 16 months ago as I am part of a minority who no longer responds to Urso. I was diagnosed more than 10 years ago - age 38 - and now have significant liver damage. Whether OCA can slow down my disease progression or not is yet to be seen but for the overall and future good of people with PBC this is definitely a breakthrough.

Cheers from Down Under.

Hi Karaliz - thanks for this information. I feel very privileged that within days of being diagnosed with pbc, this very hopeful new treatment was announced. I hope and pray that OCA will help you. Keep smiling in your wonderful sunshine. Liver-bird aka Flowerpower.....

Pleasure and I hope you keep well. For most people PBC is a "glacial disease "- ie at the speed of a glacier so fingers crossed you are in that group. Regarding the weather, Australia is HUGE and I live in Melbourne. Although our summers are very hot, we are heading into Autumn so we will have plenty of cool/cold weather. It is the northern states and the west that have an abundance of heat ! I was lucky enough to visit London last year - my family and I had the most wonderful week ! Such a contrast to the Antipodes !

Take care.

Isn't this community helpful. Thanks Karaliz and Liverbird. I hope you get a sustained positive response Karaliz. It does look promising doesn't it. I was only diagnosed last Thursday with positive AMAs and waiting for an ultrasound. No PCB diagnosis although I do get itchy and tired all the time. LFTs normal apparently. Sun is shining but Im freezing (got a cold!) I'm in south west uk, still its nice to see the sun.x take care.

Hope you feel better soon Flowerpower66 and that you attain some clarity with your situation and thank you to you and boneytoys for your comments - hello across the Tasman boneytoys !

OCA does look promising, possibly particularly for those in earlier stages. This is very much a wait and see disease so we'll see how this year pans out now I'm on the 10mg dose.

Take care everyone.
