That was how I found out I had it, I was pouring with sweat at night and i don't mean a hot flush , we had to change the bed 3 and 4 times a night at first as I was dripping, you would have sworn that i had wet the bed, I even slept in the nude with just a cotton sheet and still ended up saturated, it has calmed down a bit now but not gone. so i would say a big yes.

Tricky one. I know you can suffer night sweats going through the menopause. I started menopause a year ago and only of recent have I started having what are called hot flushes, not many but I do know when I have one.

I would say that if you are female, about to enter into menopause then that could be more probable, any other time I don't know.

For me, it's all to do with the acid which can be a symptom of PBC. Acid affects/stimulates the vagus nerve which regulates the heart rate. Heart rate increases, temperature soars, palpitations and anxiety occur. I've been five years trial-and erroring every aspect of my life to find the cause. Over-the-counter Indigestion rememdies before bed and during the night upon waking help me as does reducing my urso does. It's worth a try, it certainly can't harm!

I used to have night sweats relating to the menopause but that died down but now I have even worse night sweats where the bed is saturated!! I sleep on a towel now. I had never thought it was to do with PBC but maybe it is?

Mine isn't to do with the menopause as I had a full hysterectomy 23 years ago , i am also back on HRT at the moment and that isn't stopping them either..........it used to, the hot flushes i used to get after the hysterectomy are nothing like the sweats I get now, infact they are that bad that they were one of the reasons i was diagnosed with non hodgkin's lymphoma at first. So as far as I am concerned they are connected to PBC in some people, I also take a towel to bed and also put a folded 100% cotton sheet on my pillow to try and keep cool, the sweats are one of the things that upset me the most, to wake up with a soaking wet head and a gooey soaking wet body 3 or 4 times a night is not nice and neither is lying in cold soaking wet sheets. the people who haven't got this are lucky believe me.

To confirm, the night sweats are not menopause as Lindsclark said, well past that time of life. Wonder if all too often we use menopause as an excuse for things as we also have to watch we dont use PBC and excuse as well. Now having done some more research it seem night sweats can be a PBC symptom.

Hello Lisacj.

It was me who has referred to night sweats as menopause. I haven't experienced any sweating at night myself as yet, more like the hot flushes and given I started experiencing a slilghtly different monthly cycle last year mine is down to approching menopause. I expect I wouldn't know myself until I complete this change.

Another thought, maybe it is down to the fact that we have some inflammation of the liver due to PBC and as we know anything outside the body that is not well that we can see tends to get exceptionally hot so maybe this is another reason? Perhaps we sweat to cool down as that is basically the reason why we do sweat.

What Kaywal describes was exactly how I realized something was wrong. Of course I thought it was the menopause, until I had problems. A no of doc later: PBC. Not as much sweating now I am on urso.
