I have pbc and 1 kidney (left side) experie... - PBC Foundation
I have pbc and 1 kidney (left side) experiencing pain right side can't get any answers from my consultant!!!!!!!
With PBC you can get upper right quadrant pain so it sounds like you are experiencing this perhaps.
I know the year prior to starting with the itch (2010) I thought I had damaged my shoulder in work as I was in a manual domestic job. My shoulder ached and it lasted a few weeks. I think now it was perhaps due PBC but I obviously didnt know at the time.
I know there is an artery running down from the neck - offhand think it is the Hepatic Artery (I keep forgetting!) - and I suppose if the liver is inflamed then perhaps this iswhy the shoulder aches.
I know some on this site have mentioned right shoulder ache before. Mine comes and goes and is more prevalent when I have done something like lifting or carrying shopping bags.
I think you might find that some doctors don't seem to think this exists and say the liver can't feel pain as apparently there are no nerves but there are nearby it!
If you check out the American PBC site where there is information on there (I posted not so long ago, a blog, about questions about urso, etc) and also there's Liver North's site where there is the older and current publications too of which I find interesting to read along with Bear Facts at intervals.
Thank you I appreciate your help

Hi Angel2612,
I too am newly diagnosed, but had been having a dull pain on my right side under ribs checked out for a few months prior to knowing I had PBC. My specialist said the liver doesn't hurt so it must be musculoskeletal, but when I asked about it here many people experienced the same thing. Some had been told by their Dr's that though the liver has no nerves, the sac around it does, so perhaps that is where the ache originates.
