Statin's
Hi Cavi, my Cholesterol has also been climbing, however not at the point where I need to, or want to, start taking Statins. So back in Feb I asked to see a dietician, she helped me to look at my diet and made some suggestions, I have stuck ridgidly to these since then, due for blood test in 2 weeks, so will let you know the outcome. In the meantime I have felt better than I have felt in 2 and a half years. (Diagnosed PBC in Feb last year).
My liver doctor feels that statins have played a huge part in damaging my liver, or possibly even causing my AIH/PBC. Anytime, I was on Lipitor, Tricor, fenofibrate, I became deathly ill and my liver enzymes elevated ....... I take nothing for my cholesterol at this time, and it has not gone up or down. My medical records all state NO STATINS.
Thank's for your help i don't like the thought of taking Statin's.I have just started to take Questran Light for my itching and have just read on the info leaflet that this lower's cholesteral.I will have a word with my consultant tomorrow to be on the safe side i take more notice of him than my GP who is not that well up on PBC. Thank God my consultant is a good one Take Care X
Yes apparently Questran is used for cholesterol but also did you know that urso can break choelesterol down too?
I was informed months prior to diagnose in 2010 that my cholesterol levels were high but it seems that we can have the healthy one (can't recall which it is, the LDL or the HDL?).
No-one ever said anything further about mine one I got diagnosed.
I have apparently heard that statins can be a problem for people with compromised livers and also can alter the LFTs.
