Hi, gizzi, yes there certainly is a connection as people who are hypothyroid often have trouble absorbing B12. Unfortunately the symptoms of low B12 overlap many of those of low thyroid so this connection often goes unnoticed by medics. You can find a list of low B12 symptoms plus much other info on:

It is a very regular issue over on my "home patch"of HealthUnlocked - ThyroidUK.

And I quite often suggest to posters there that they hop over here when they ask things beyond the usual. You would be welcome if you wish to go over there.

Issues such as lowered stomach acidity, possible parietal cell antibodies (apparently quite common alongside TPOab and/or TGab) and poor gut function might be causes but the frequency of low B12 is phenomenal.

It has also been suggested that low B12 might even be a factor behind some thyroid issues - but this seems still to be speculative.

I'm exactly the same as JJ, autoimmune thyroid, had a vit D deficiency (which was easily corrected) and now low b12. Am in the process of having IF and parietal cell antibodies checked. It does seem that it's a common combination.

If you have one autoimune condition you are unfortunatly also more prone to more autoimune conditions. ,
