Hello , does anyone know if B12 deficiency can affect HbA1c results mine was 45 ? I have been told I am within the pre diabetic range. My cholesterol is ok Triglycerides 1.0 normal between 0.5 and 1.70
I have been asked to do a prevention of Diabetes programme, I am within the recommended BMI and walk average of 12k steps daily don’t drink alcohol, I think my diet is pretty good, also have have FSH muscular dystrophy, so don’t want to lose muscle.

I'm not aware that b12 can affect blood glucose by making it go up (i think there is something about b12 deficiency and hypoglycaemia, certainly, that's my experience).i would attend the programme. It's free, and you'll learn even more about a healthy diet than you clearly already know. Having prediabetes doesn't mean you will develop diabetes, it just means you've got a slightly bigger risk than when your hba1c was less than 42. Around half of people with prediabetes will go back to having a normal blood glucose level on their next test.
I have PA with a confirmed intrinsic factor antibody test. I also had type 2 diabetes a couple of years before and got it under control using the Newcastle Diet.
Recently I had a relapse with my HbA1c going too high - this measures the average blood glucose level for the 3 months prior to the sample. Hence I went back on the diet & now measure my naked weight and fasting blood glucose ever morning and it looks as though I am in remission again which is good news at 81 years old. The Newcastle diet is a very low sugar/fat diet which is tough yet as its just for two months its achievable. I lost one stone 5 pounds this time and feel a lot better for that alone.
The slight problem is that the symptoms of B12 deficiency & diabetes type 2 are more or less the same. With T2 under control I find I can now space out my B12 injections more and they have gone from EOD to once weekly. Only time will tell how far this can be taken.
I wish you well and urge you to look carefully at the Newcastle diet and to use it. I found that books helped a lot & you might also find the diabetic or diet nurse helps as well.
I just read a book: The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally Paperback – April 3 2018
by Dr. Jason Fung (Author), Nina Teicholz (Foreword)
I don't have type 2 diabetes but my cousins have it.
He recommends intermittent fasting. He has people fasting a lot to reverse diabetes. Since you only have pre=diabetes, something simple like an 8 hour eating window per day might work. He also recommends avoiding sugar and low carb.
b12 deficiency as far as I have experienced has no relaxation. I was type 2 in my 20s, it went into remission. I have severe hypoglycemia and sensitivity to sugar. But have not had a high a1c since my b12 deficiency started in 2014.
My father had type 1, my bother got diabetes. Damn genetics. I know I'm headed there so I'm going back on keto as I never felt better than on that diet.
Sounds like your diet and exercise is fine. It's the simple carbs that get put into salad dressings, sauces, marinades, spices. Every damn thing.
Those are the things that add up that typically no one notices.
