advice please about abnormal blood test results with pernicious anaemia

hi everyone. I have recently had a blood test which showed an above normal number of red blood cells and a higher than normal haemacrit level. They have referred me to Haematology dept in January.

my question is does this have any connection with my diagnosis of pernicious anaemia last year. I have 8 weekly B12 injections.

I have also been told I have the beginnings of chronic kidney disease any connection with this too? .

I feel like everything is going a bit wrong these days!! I also have Hashimoto's.

I am generally a fit 69 year old snd exercise and eat healthily and am feeling a bit downhearted with all these apparent issues.

any information gratefully received.

Hi,

This NHS link about Red Blood Count might be useful.

"I have 8 weekly B12 injections."

I'm pleased you've managed to get them every 8 weeks. Many UK forum members struggle to get them every 12 weeks.

I hope you find answers soon.

Scientist, not medic.

Numbers would be helpful.

From your description, hematologist will be looking for an MPN and in particular PV, but don't worry, it's quite treatable these days. My wife has probably gone through the whole gambit of PV, ET, but only diagnosed when she had MF and that was six and a half years ago.

The symptoms of polycythaemia vera (PV) are caused by over-production of blood cells, in particular, red blood cells. Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). Essential thrombocytopenia (ET). (MF) Myelofibrosis.

Is there any link to PV and PA or B12 injections?

I wouldn't think so at all, I'm injecting B12 twice a week, which works for me, and my red cells are only at 200, which is low normal. My wife's red cells are below normal as is her hematocrit, but that is due to MF not B12 deficiency, she does have B12 tablets due to having omeprazole long term which is known to deplete B12 reserves.

when I was "diagnosed" with chronic kidney disease Stage 3, I was shocked, then the GP said it was nothing to worry about as its age related and although "chronic" sounds grim it isn't at all. It's never got any worse and I don't have any sort of kidney problem.
