I keep reading about the weight loss injections being given on the NHS to obese people to help them get back to work, but what about B12 patients??!!! What about those with PA/B12d who cannot work because the NHS protocol severely lets them down? What about those patients who are wrongly diagnosed with things like fibromyalgia, or FND, or any of the other misdiagnoses given to PA/B12d patients? There is a treatment available: a cheap, reliable, and extremely effective treatment, yet still they don't offer it. Stories like this anger me. I will be writing to my local MP again, and to Wes Streeting. They say it's to help with the unemployment crisis, but imagine the money the NHS could save, and the improvement in the workforce, if B12 injections were readily available!!
Annoyed by all this talk of weight lo... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Annoyed by all this talk of weight loss injections........
Hi BeachArt,
I hope you get a response and thanks for trying to raise awareness.
I would like to see an APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) on B12 deficiency started.
These are informal cross party groups.
Maybe you could suggest that to your MP.
UK Parliament has a register of current APPGs.
I agree with your sentiment entirely.
The injections as far as I know are at present only being offered to those at risk of pre- diabetics, those suffering from cardiovasular disease ect.
These injections do not come cheap yet PA and B12 patients are being left debilitated due to the one size fits all regime...... it makes me want to swear. 🤬
"Stories like this anger me."
I'm sure many forum members will understand why you feel this way.
Tracey Witty of B12info.com has campaigned for years to get B12 injections available over the counter in UK pharmacies.

"What about those patients who are wrongly diagnosed "
I left some links in this thread about Patient Safety for those in UK having difficult health experiences with B12 deficiency.
Absolutely right BeachArt . It’s outrageous . We should ALL write to our MPs about this gross injustice . I’ll get pen to paper immediately - well fingers on keyboard .
Completely agree with you here. My GP last week denied me a follow up blood test so I can check my folate/ferritin/vit D levels are all where they should be. Feeling guilty for being unable to work full time at the moment. But if I let myself get morbidity obese I would be helped. Disgusting.
hello, totally agree. x
Also the background chatter concerning depressed young people. Again low B12 should at the very least be ruled out. It concerns me that B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD are not routinely tested along with the Full Blood Count.
The sceptic in me thinks Big Pharma prefers customers for life by keeping us unwell and needing a pill for every ill...rather than exploring the basics and adopting preventative measures🌻
Agreed! The pens that are used for the weight loss drugs are so easy to use. It would be great if we could get our B12 doses in ready to use injectors too.
I hope you can provoke some changes! The other issue is that it seems many people are only allowed injections once per 3 months and that is not enough for them.
Yes, it's insane, isn't it.
But, we must remember not to underestimate the influence of the pharmaceutical manufacturers, who influence world opinion on these medical protocols, which then become worldwide. These drugs are extremely expensive here in the USA, where they are being widely prescribed at this point.- Extremely profitable for the companies making and pushing them. Their profits have skyrocketed from these weightloss drugs. There is no pharmaceutical lobby for prescribing B12, as it is not a "new drug" here.
