iron levels and heart

can low iron levels affect heart function? My iron is now 7. I am concerned about side effects of low iron and abnormal transferrin

Yes severe iron deficiency can cause heart problems.

A mild to moderate iron deficiency can cause fatigue ,palpitations and faster heart beat to get O2 to where its needed .

I was alarmed by symptoms the doctor wasn't??

I was only mildly deficient and prescribed iron .

I still take low dose iron alternating with spartone ,solgar gentle iron.

I only take ferrous fumarate 210'now if needed by blood results.

Hopefully your doctor has explained your results.

Iron is complex and looked at all together.

I've often questioned my blood results.

Also inform them what I'm taking as don't want to overdo it .

I know not easy to speak to a doctor .

although my iron is low, my ferritin is good. So doctor thinks I don't need any extra iron.

I take heme iron supplements. Often we are iron deficient as we require high stomach acid to break down iron and help aid absorption. Which is something that we lack. So I take supplements but it’s important to regularly check your levels as over supplementation is not healthy either. I keep my ferritin levels around 100 - but I am vigilant about blood tests every 4 months.
