Hi everyone, for past 20+ years I struggled with fatigue, gastric issues pins and nèedles in hands and feet and electric shock sensations down my right side.all started after 4 hour op,hysterectomy where nitrous oxide was given to me . Usual story, it's stress, all in your head. 3 years ago I was started on 3 monthly b12 injections as I had a level of 167. No loading doses. It has taken a long time but the injections really help,I now have 10 weekly and occasional SI. I am on Rampiril for BP. Past month BP high, headaches, nausea and fatigue. Then I had my jab at the surgery and within a few days started to feel better and BP started to come down. Due to do 24hour monitor this week. Pharmacist rang today and suggested a new b12 drug that apparently has a longer lasting effect. I questioned this saying, given I had gastric problems it is probably an absorption issue and was loathe to give it a try preffering to continue with injections. Has anyone heard of this new drug. Sony I can't remember name of drug and apologies for long winded post. Xx
New oral b12 drug: Hi everyone, for... - Pernicious Anaemi...
New oral b12 drug
No I've not heard of it .Interested though when you find out the name of it .
Definitely stay with your injections 💉
I doubt there is a new drug more that someone has licenced a high dose oral product - there has been talk of it for some time. It works for some people but not for everyone. Some studies in Canada showed large numbers of people (60% ish if memory serves) preferring high dose oral as more convenient than periodic injections. That was quite a large scale study
Whether or not it works seems to be totally independent of what the cause of B12 absorption is from other studies that I have seen but they have all been relatively small scale studies.
Thank you Gambit. I'm still not sure how oral b12 will be effective for absorption issues.. will ask for evidence based information.
it works using a different mechanism called passive absorption - on average this absorbs 1% of the B12 that passes through the gut. However, as always an average is an average and people vary - for some people it just doesn't seem to work at all,
Do not be surprised if this is quoted:

Though lack of access to the full paper leaves me very much unconvinced.
I have been trying to work out why my health has deteriorated and came across nitrous oxide. I believed the uk had banned it in 2023? obviously not if its still in use. im not into recreational drugs so I know I haven't come across it by that but then im looking into where it might have come from if it were something and flaberghasted at where it can be found.is nitrous oxide in tracer used for bone scan? where is this stuff, in our homes? I have had operations etc and I am undiagnosed but I find this very interesting and wonder if this affects many. are we all suffering from the use of an apparently now banned danger, is was used in squirts cream canisters no doubt deodorants and the like. wow very interesting and so sorry you have suffered so Lon 😘🤗
