I sometimes get a feeling of weak heart and uncomfortable chest, too fast heartbeat, and a feeling like physical anxiety in my stomach/heart while mentally feeling completely calm so it's definitely a physically caused thing. My heart area feels uncomfortable and it makes sleep very difficult. I also feel my blood pulsing everywhere and in my stomach especially. I have had my heart medically checked when this happens and it is fine, I am not having a heart attack. Also i'm not breathless or breathing fast, but I exhale more completely, or feeling like I need to take a full breath, like the heart issue makes my breathing change.
I am still waiting on my pernicious anemia results.
I've been slowly increasing my folate (very slowly as I'm sensitive to folate supplements but I am also increasing in diet) as I am pretty much deficient at a level of 3.0, and then the heart issue started coming up again. I took a sublingual B12 tablet which seemed to help a bit so I wonder if the slightly increased folate reduced my b12 which caused the heart issue. My last Active B12 result was 64 pmol/L, 3 weeks ago (with a range of around 38-210 pmol/L, going by the green area on the monitormyhealth graph).
I'm trying to puzzle out the cause of the heart symptoms, and wondering if anyone else gets some of the same symptoms as me? Are they b12 deficiency symptoms for you?
many thanks
P.S.
NHS guidelines for active B12 result: Between 25 and 70 pmol per litre - Indeterminate test result – possible vitamin B12 deficiency
Yes, your breathing is also going to be affected too. Low B12 means we carry less oxygen in our blood. So we compensate by changing the way we inhale and exhale air. We colloquially call the more complete exhale ‘the sighs’.
When you read the book, you’ll understand more about how the human body works and will be able to identify your own individual symptoms.
Thank you so much Narwhal10, that makes sense about the breathing thing. In a way I hope that this is b12 deficiency or anemia then I know what it is and it is fixable. I will download the book and read it.
I was deficient in Folate and was quite ill. I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis. I suffered very bad palpitations as in very fast heart rate (Tachycardia), my blood pressure went right up. I actually ended up with too much Thyroxine in my body due to an autoimmune attack on my Thyroid however, I had no idea my Folate levels were low at 2.6. I had to ask my GP to do the test and was prescribed Folic Acid for 3 months. I see you have a problem with taking supplements so have to rely on dietary intake.
Before I got any treatment I used to get an awful sense of something terrible was about to happen, a very weird and scary sensation indeed. After taking the Folic Acid my symptoms did improve and rectify. For me I think it was a combination of deficiencies and a Thyroid problem.
I do get a pulsating feeling in my stomach from time to time say after a meal and when my heart is working a bit harder digesting food then I feel it in my stomach.
I am currently being investigated for B12 deficiency and I believe I was also B12 deficient at cellular level when I was deficient in Folate. Just a thought, how are your iron/ferritin levels? I was low in Ferritin and I had symptoms of having to keep sighing.
From my own experience B12/Folate/Iron,Ferritin deficiencies can cause a whole host of problems which are not always picked up on by doctors.
Thank you! I am still waiting for my PA results, so I don't know if I have PA or not yet. I agree the level of 43 for ferritin does seem low. I have some heme iron I am starting to take, and I have ordered the 3 arrows one. I hope my ferritin will go up with the heme iron.
If you get a positive test you will know. If you get a negative test, then you won't know for sure if you have it or not. Unfortunately, the test has a very high false negative rate.
Ah I see thank you! I am getting MMA and homocysteine and some autoimmune ones too so I hope to get some indication from those. But as you say, even if all these are OK maybe there is still a B12 issue. It's difficult.
