B12 and feet

Hi all,

Have posted before.

I have been on 3 monthly B12 injections for a long time, and recently been put on 2 monthly injections after a blood test due to symptoms getting worse.

One symptom that seems to be getting worse, very hot feet, pins & needles really painful to walk on.

Any suggestions would be grateful

Hi Spick,

I do hope that you keep a symptoms diary. When you say that your symptoms were getting worse prior to the increase what were they ?

Now before the increase what sensations did you have in your feet ? Were they numb ? You had a MMA urine test ? And what were the results of that please ? Either your blood or urine test indicated an increase of frequency of Hydroxycobalamin. It maybe the nerves waking up called the Reversing Out Process.

However, I always prefer to be on the side of caution and not put everything down to PA/B12D. Just so nothing is being missed. In a previous post, you asked about other supplements and good folate, ferritin and the other vitamin B’s work together.

I do not know whether you take any other supplements but I feel it best to never forget what your GP is for. You can ring them and make an appointment if you wish.

Best wishes

Hi Narwhal10

Thank you for your valued response.

Yes I do keep a daily diary, I am not on the online NHS app. so do not have any test results

The soles of my feet feel like walking on hot cobble stones with needle & pins most of the time, I try to keep the pressure off my soles, and transfer weight onto my heels.

I am due my 12month health M O T soon and will discuss this with the Health Centre nurse

Thanks Again

It is my pleasure Spick,

Good about you keeping a symptoms diary. I too am not on the NHSApp and when you have your 12 Monthly MOT please ask the receptionist to print out your results so you have a copy.

As Sleepybunny has said you may indeed need more loading doses. The way you describe your feet appears to warrant this and my goodness that sounds like a cumbersome and awkward way to walk. Many of us do report ‘Burning Foot Syndrome’ (medical fancy name - Grierson-Gopalan syndrome).

Soaking feet in a cool bowl of water can bring some temporary relief if you are able. It is advisable to have the water 2 inches above the ankles just because of anatomy and physiology.

Take care

Hi,

I think you might have a case to ask for loading injections to be restarted.

How many loading injections did you have when treatment started?

If you had/have neuro symptoms then usual pattern would be

A B12 loading injection every other day for as long as symptoms continue to improve, followed by a maintenance injection every 2 months.

If you had 6 loading injections followed by maintenance injections every 3 months, that is a pattern recommended for people without any neuro symptoms.

See treatment patterns in Indications and Doses section in link below.
