Lower back pain is usually a sign of vit D deficiency, you should get it checked. If your vit D levels are low, it can hamper your iron absorption(ferritin) and even B12.

I think it's a sign that you need to be getting more regular injections/supplement regimen that also has cofactors etc.

And yes, I have experienced numbness before and still am experiencing it.

Hi gpw61,

The numbness and bright red feet is commonly called Burning Foot Syndrome or medical name is ‘Grierson-Gopalan syndrome’. Many of us can report it and the ‘fun and games’ of sleeping with frozen peas or having to get up in the night to soak feet in cool water.

The sensation of the insects crawling under skin is another common symptom called Formication.

Please seriously consider joining the Pernicious Anaemia Society (PAS) to have proper knowledge of the disease. You do not have to have a diagnosis of PA. Plus, clinicians can have access to that information.

I noted from previous posts that 4 years ago, you had loading doses, then switched to tablets. Then more recently you have had more loading doses. It is a very ineffective way of managing an illness. Currently, you have to wait another 12 weeks. Like QianYunxi said other co-factors are very important.

The cold, shivery sensation is also common. A simple explanation is that our internal thermostat has gone a bit haywire. It is much more complex and multifaceted than that. Fatigue also makes us feel the cold more.

The PAS is the only worldwide organisation to collect data and statistics which includes a question on whether Patients are satisfied with their treatment. This is invaluable. I cannot work out if you are U.K. based and most of us ‘do what we have to’ for Quality of Life.

Hope that helps.

I get the low back pain and had the crawling skin and burning feet (and mouth) - sounds like you need more B12 than you are getting, plus co-factors. Cheers
