Just a moan - appointment cancelled

So just need a quick rant to people who understand so I can move on and get on with my day.

Booked my 8 weekly jab no options on the day only 2 days before or a week late, was told they'd have to message the GP for permission to book early so I explained that by a week late I will be feeling very ill and as you cannot have too much b12 there are no risks to being injected a couple of days early but I can't wait until later due to the symptoms it causes.

Surprise, surprise get a text today my GP cancelled my injection and says to book for the 25th instead - a week late. Obviously there is no option to speak to the GP about why they feel the need to make me wait getting more and more symptoms returning by the day, just a receptionist based in a call centre in another city. Managed to get in slightly earlier on the 23rd, due on 18th but this system makes me so angry!!!! I was considering going to the GP practice to complain in person and ask for a discussion with the doctor but honestly I just don't have the energy today. Then read the post about addicts being supported to self inject daily - grr seriously can't decide if I want to scream or cry but don't have the energy for either.

Anyway rant over now I'm going to get my husband to inject me at home with my lovely German saviour - dread to think the state I would be in without being able to SI.

Hi Clare184,

I think many UK forum members will empathise with you.

People shouldn't be forced into a position where their only option is to seek B12 injections elsewhere or self inject (SI).

Don't know if you saw this recent thread. I speculated that some people who get NHS B12 injections may only get three a year due to appts being delayed.

Some UK forum members have left their stories on Care Opinion, a health review website.

Put "B12 deficiency" in search box on above website to see stories.

Thread about Patient Safety, has useful links for those having difficult health experiences with B12 deficiency.

Glad you've got your own supplies.I had a battle to keep my mums on time.

Told in district nursing lowest priority.....grrr .

Did they explain why they thought it was the lowest priority?

I don't understand why they would think that. People can be in so much mental and physical pain if B12 injections not given on time.

They said pain relief and other conditions are their priority.I pointed out my mum had falls snd signs of dementia if her B12 is late.

So should be treated lije any other patient on their rounds.

Also has other conditions and 94 yesrs old.

Spoken to her G.p.

The district nurses havd tried to stop her Injections twice now.

They have been on time for the last few months!

I had a simlar response when they didn't come out to do my injection when it was due. I blew a fuse and told them I would do myself.

One of the head nurses rang me and I explained 'they would not miss a diabetics injection so why are they doing it to B12 patients' ? I explained how ill I were if not given on time. They soon pulled their fingers out after that.

I am no longer relient on the nurses they have just been out and showed me how to SI. Whilst their backs were turned I stabbed it in my thigh muscle. 🤣

No more sitting around all day for them not to turn up for me. 👋

So frustrating, shouldn't be low priority!

You have my every sympathy . You do wonder if there doctors have ever sworn the Hippocratic Oath . I think that they probably don’t have to anymore .

I don’t bother to get my B12 injection anymore at the surgery . I’m also so thankful for the German online pharmacies . I feel that I owe my life to them .

I have a district nurse come out to give mine, I waited all day but she didn't turn up. I rang them, they said mine would be a week late, I told them I didn't want my health to suffer and I would do it myself - I had the option to do so because they leave the sharps and B12 with me. I self inject anyway but they are not aware of that.

I wonder if your surgery would be prepared to prescribe and show you how to self inject. You need to try to emphasise how ill you feel if you dont get your injection on time. I am damned sure they wouldn't do the same to a patient with diabetes !

Glad to hear you already self inject and hubby can inject for you. Why the hell surgeries cant prescribe to us and teach how to inject safely is beyond me. 🤬

I read them the riot act and have now been promised it wont happen again - we shall see but I wont be holding my breath on that one.

Oh dear,

Talk about sods law, I have just had one of the community nurses ring me to say she is coming out to show me how to inject myself ! I have a bruise on my arm from an injection I did the other day. I am sure she will guess I have been injecting for some time. 😱

How strange that I answered you and then get a phone call. 😀

That is typical! At least they have finally listened to you - well done for standing your ground.

My husband said to stop bothering with the GP and we'll just do them all at home but I want it kept on my records and to know I have options if we ever can't order from abroad, also I really hate self injecting, the ones the nurse does don't bother me at all but I get myself all anxious about doing it at home. One day I might take the plunge and admit to them I SI

I have been doing SI for over 3 years and nurse is coming to show me how to do it. I suggested they show me how to do it in the first place but apparently it wasn't safe for me to do so !

The same here, I want it kept on my records especially as I have now been diagnosed with absorbtion issues and crohns.

I shouldn't think anyone injoys injecting but we have no choice. I wonder if this nurse will let me practice on her ? 😂

Just a sharp scratch. 💉

I'm really sorry that they're doing that to you Claire 184. Nobody should have to suffer like that. It's hard enough to wait the one to three months in the first place let alone have it be a week late. And I cannot see why giving it to you a couple days early would make any difference whatsoever. That is ludicrous and that is just plain not caring about your patient. How dare they say it is low priority. I don't blame you for being upset.

All they have to do is take literally 5 minutes out of their day to inject you. But this is proof that they don't want to do this. They're tired of having to do this. If doctors would just tell the medical board that we should inject ourselves to take the burden off of them, we'd be happy to do this. I know there's some people who are afraid of self-injecting but I'll tell you when you are really suffering and you can't get your B12, self-injecting is a lifesaver. And I agree with Wedgewood about the German pharmacies they are my life saviors.

I hope you get it sorted out. Sending sympathetic hugs.

Thanks, I honestly don't know why they can't just book my next appointment when I have my injection, the system only let's them book 4 weeks ahead but then when you call 4 weeks later you are lucky to get the exact date you need. It makes me so upset for people who don't self inject and left completely at the mercy of this daft system.

EllaNore profile image
EllaNore in reply to Clare184

Yes, that must be very terrible to be at the mercy of them. Some people are really terrified of SI'ing. I know what you mean about booking an appointment in the tiny window they give you. It is the same with prescriptions. I can't reorder to early and then it's a weekend, or I forget and I run out. It's not fun to be dependent on anyone.

I had two nurses come out ! Whilst one was out to the car to get a blood pressure monitor and the other had her back turned I stabbed the needle in my thigh muscle.

The nurse retorted inpatient aren't you. 🤣

I hope you have managed to get intouch with your surgery to sort your injections out. At least I am no longer dependent on them.
