Pseudo-thrombotic microangiopathy is a condition that is often mistaken for thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) or hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). It is an uncommon clinical presentation known to occur in 2.5% of cases of cyanocobalamin deficiency, commonly known as vitamin B12 deficiency.

Something else I didn't know !

I remember years ago someone here saying that B12 injections cured her purpura - but not knowing why.

I looked this up and found a case discussed in "Pernicious Anaemia presenting with Pseudo Thrombotic Microangiopathy and falsely elevated B12 Levels".

For this one patient, "renal insufficiency" was mentioned. Phyloreardon - you may be interested in this.

Thankfully purpura is not something that I suffer from. I read up on the conditon in the hope of providing information for Jadeite11. I will most certainly google Phyloreardon. I had also read of the renal connection but hadn't fully understood it. Perhaps phyloreaedon will help with my understanding. Thanks for posting me.

P.s Do you have a link for phyloreaedon ?

Hahahah, Jillymo ! Let me explain myself a bit better -

Phylodorean was someone who posted yesterday about B12 symptoms, with high B12, and the possibility of renal complications .... I was just alerting them to this case I looked up when googling "Pseudo Thrombotic Microangiopathy", thanks to your interesting reply to jadeite's post.

Don't know if that makes it clearer - or more muddy !

I am interested if anyone on here would know if idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura could also be related and/or mistaken for b12 deficiency. I was diagnosed with that when I was about 6 years old, which was many years ago. I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia in 2018 along with Raynaud’s and have an enlarged thyroid though no diagnosis of anything to do with that. Thanks in advance for any information anyone could give me. 🙂
