Hi all. I used Rotoxmedica to self inject for around 2 years and never had any problems. I now use the Panpharma version, which is supposed to be the same. (1mg/1ml)
Since the change in brand name however, I notice the injection stings much more when I administer it and I have soreness in that area for a few days afterwards, whether that's IM or SC.
Has anyone else noticed a difference and if so know what's changed to cause this?
Thanks as ever. 😊

No, nothing different. Same batch of needles, etc. I've done my usual thighs and even tried sc in my tummy, but same in all areas. Sometimes I think, 'ooh my leg muscle's sore', then realise it's the spot where I SI'd a couple of days previously. Baffled tbh. Although, I spend increasingly more time baffled in general nowadays! 😆
Hi I also used to get very itchy for few days and almost stopped. My husbands nurse advised putting ice on the area before and after for about 5 mins. It has really helped. I changed to thigh as well which is less sensitive then tummy. Hope this helps
Thanks Nackapan . I'd be grateful if you had a copy of the Rotoxmedica one. I don't have one unfortunately. It would be good to compare them. As you say, it might save my sanity if nothing else!
Yes, that's probably the only way to find out now I guess. I'm inclined to try the Pascoe brand anyway and see if there's any difference. Thanks again for your input with this. 😊
Now this is a very outside chance and I do not mean to offend but anyone can make a mistake . . . . . B12 is and should be a very neutral product . . . . . . I dont know where you get your meds but B1 is advertised beside B12 as are B complex and complex contains B1. . . . . . .B1 stings and I mean really stings. . . . So much so some may have to stop almost before they get started . . . . . I cant use it on its own. . . . . It also stinks because of sulphur content . .. . . . To SI is a bit of a procedure but that's another matter . . . . . Just check what ye bought anyhow . .. . . . Anyone can make a mistake. . . . . As a side comment . . . . . . . For decades there has been a debate about B1 making you less attractive to insects and I mean 50/50 pro/con scientific debate . . . . . . I did not realise that until the end of last summer when I realised I had not had a single eve where I was not ate alive by midges. . . . . . I always seemed to attract them more than most. . . . . . My daughter, my grandmother and my mother in law on the other hand had/have no trouble walking around in a cloud of the wee rascals. . . . . They are all O Neg is that makes any odds. . . . . .
Thanks for sharing your thoughts OldmanD . I definitely have phials of B12. I've ordered them for a few years now and other than the change in name, it's the same stuff (supposedly).I do know people report stinging from B12 injections and believe this is from the substance it's suspended in rather than the B12 itself. This seems to affect some people more than others.
My query is why this might get worse if, as you say, this is ostensibly the same product.
As for midge bites - unfortunately they already love to chomp me!
I have always found Panpharma depot to sting when using it, although I have only been SI for less than a year. I had used just 10 ampules of Pascoe depot several months ago and remembered that I had not felt any sting with it. I recently ordered Pascoe when Panpharma was out of stock and the larger dose of 1500mcg seems to suit me better too, and no sting!! Good luck.
Thanks for this yorkshiregirl4 . Glad it's not just me. The Rotoxmedica used to sting a bit, but not like this and it's the soreness afterwards that bothers me most. I had been thinking of buying some Pascoe to try it anyway, so I might just give that a go. 😊
Mind now the ingredients are on the little piece of paper inside the box. . . You could cpmpare one with the other . . . . . . The ingredients are also available online . . . .. .
Thanks OldmanD . @Nackapan kindly checked this out for me yesterday. The ingredients are exactly the same, although quantities/proportions are not specified, so there could be a change there. The only way to find out would be to contact Panpharma direct, assuming they would disclose this info. I think I have the answers I need from other replies though and will try another brand.
My gp has changed the supplier of our b12 injections recently. It REALLY stings now - the nurses said everyone who gets injected has been saying the same. Although the red liquid is 'supposed to be' exactly the same.... clearly something is different. 😢
I bought the 2ml hevert ones in error and was dreading injecting a larger amount of fluid but found they didn’t sting……bonus. I decided to stick with them 😊
Thanks wedgewood . Yes, it does seem to be individual doesn't it. Just strange that I didn't have this problem with the old Roexmedica, but now do with Panpharma. Maybe I'm just getting sensitive in my old age! (My husband may have a different opinion on that however! 😆)
I'm not near my stash (as it were 😀) but I think I have some panpharma 1.5ml and definitely stings more than the previous brand! I'm waiting for my methylcobalamin to come back in stock so been using the panpharma again and had forgotten the sting!! Definitely not just you!
I don't have any sensitivity after though unless I've injected too shallowly once or twice when I've been tired not paying attention.
Thanks for the reassurance pipple ! Everything I did was exactly the same, but lots more painful and the area has been sore for days after. I might just try a different brand and see if they're any better. I just worry they're causing a problem if the soreness remains for days... but that said, I do worry way more than I should! 😆
The nurse at my GP says that one kind stings more, but she didn’t say which, she was just apologising as she was having to use the stinging one that day.
I have definitely had some injections that sting a lot and others that have been fine, but I have never experienced soreness afterwards.
Thanks LauraJane2 . Yes, I can put up with the stinging and do the injection slowly to manage this, but it's more the issue of the soreness after I'm worried about. Never had that before... 🤔
You know, my last few injections have stung but I just thought it was an aberration. I had recently received new vials of Pan Pharma. I will try to see if this is an established pattern.
Now you have me wondering if this (newer) Pan Pharma hydroxy has changed some or any of the ingredients? If it was the same, why would the shot feel different? I got a new batch in October. Since then I have notices a sting, but didn't think much about it really...it is fleeting.
Ha, sorry for throwing yet another thing to think about into the mix! 😬I got this latest batch late summer, but it's really the continued soreness in the area around the injection I noticed. According to Mackapan's info, there's no difference in ingredients so who knows. 🤷♀️
Ah...no worries. I do not have continued soreness. I did not read Nackapan's response but if she says the ingredients are the same, I believe her. I stick with one brand so I don't have to adjust to new chemicals.
