I am new here - concerned about recent B12 blood test

Hello

I am new to this forum but a long time member of Thyroid UK who basically saved my life 13 years ago. I am 70, have mild COPD, and until recently have been relatively healthy. I took a dive in Oct/Nov last year and have had chronic fatigue really since the end of last Summer. I thought - "Ah Ha! I will figure this out for myself as the Medical profession is unlikely to do so as they didn't do anything about my hypothyriodism before except to tell me I was depressed"So I looked for my copy of "Could it be B12"? but didn't have the energy to find it - (I have hundreds of books)-so decided to read it on Kindle for £7.49. I read it (2nd edition) again from front to cover and sort of feel that I may have a B12 deficiency as I have several of the symptoms. So I did a test via the Holland and Barrat testing service for B12 and the results came back as 466 in a range of 138 - 652. I have been taking a sublingual dose of 3000mcg for a few days and do feel a bit better - more energy, more able to concentrate, less painful legs.

I had an xray in September on my hips, expecting to find that arthritis was the culprit, but it showed up as only being mild, which really shocked me as I can only walk about 50 feet without sitting down - never used to have problems walking 2 years ago.

Could I ask you good people for your thoughts and advice please?

Sheena

Hi,

Just a quick reply as busy.

I left a reply with some useful links on the thread "Supplement Help Please" . Three threads below yours.

Suggest vitD deficiency as a possible route to follow.

Thanks for your replies Sleepybunny and Orchard. I have been supplementing with high doses of Vit D3 and K2 for a number of years. I forgot to say that to my surprise on Tuesday I was summoned by the nurse at the surgery, and she took blood which she said was my "annual MOT" so I await the results with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation.

Reading Could it be B12? it was very scary to see the prognosis of low B12 in the elderly, especially as I am not far short of joining that population myself, but at least I am armed with information. There is a very interesting chapter on the effects of low Vit b12 within older people and the links with Alzeimers and dementia, particularly linked with poor diets and lack of money (and knowledge). The book covers the effects on every age group, and includes people with autism.
