Having SI for a short while, should I ask my GP for kidney/liver function tests? A friend of a friend has recommended... Thanks

Hi f1ddle_st1cks,

You are correct to question. What symptoms do you have that you feel require urea and electrolytes (kidney function test) and liver function test ?

These tests are regularly ordered, performed and are bog standard.

For PA/B12vitamin B12D, we need blood (serum) tests that check our ferritin, full iron panel, what our red blood cells look like, how big they are, how concentrated they are.

How much folate we have, how much vitamin D we have.

More intricate and expensive tests may be ordered to test homocysteine levels and/or Methylmalonic acid (MMA). These are amino acids which are the building blocks of protein.

What does your friend of a friend do for a living ? What illnesses do they have ?

SunnyWorld posted about what one buffoon posted on TikTok regarding vitamin B12. It is misinformation.

Can you remember when your bloods were last taken ? They would have taken the blood tests you are writing about.

Before you offer your arm to a phlebotomist, nurse, doctor, ask the question, WHAT BLOODS ARE YOU TAKING PLEASE ? It is part of informed consent. For blood tests, I will only ever OFFER my right arm. Just above where they can access my veins is a tattoo. 😉

I agree with Narwhal10.

To add to that, a reason to do it would be to see if you have a preexisting liver or kidney issue. Injections won't cause kidney or liver issues but if you have any preexisting issues with either of those two, then injections b12 must be done under watch.

But don't ever let anyone lead you to believe that b12 injections will cause liver or kidney issues. Don't ever let anyone lead you to believe that b12 injections can be toxic and must be stopped UNLESS you have a PREEXISTING issue with your liver.

For example, had a friend who cooked their liver through extreme, chronic alcoholic consumption was restricted on how much b12 they could have injected as their liver was in a bad state that couldn't handle it. But a normal and healthy liver can take any amount of b12 w/o any harm. I get this from my brother who is a doc and backed by medical journals.
