Great doctor!

I want to share my experience with my lovely new doctor! I thought from my conversation that he had PA like me. It turns out itis a very rare condition that took years of frustration like us to be diagnosed and has left him with intense chronic pain and debilitating exhaustion He can only work 3days a week and for 4 hours before having to go home to bed He has been amazingly helpful though did not know much about PA he was willing and keen to read any info I gave him or told him I left him with a study from the Mayo Clinic to read and this was a private email he wrote back with

Hi Brenda

Have just been reading the info you gave me, along with a little bit of research myself.

I can order an MMA blood test, I would add in instrinsic factor antibodies and parietal cell auto antibodies.

The homocysteine blood test I can request but you would have to pay $80 to have it done.

I’m truly excited by the information you have shared with me, thank you so much.

NOW!!! I feel like I have support from a doctor finally He has prescribed me EOD b12 till the end of the year along with anything else I needed and told me that since our last appointment, he had been able to treat a patient he had for the same condition that he had misdiagnosed in the past because her b12 was well within range. He said he wished he had met me 5 years ago as he may have been able to identify more patients over that time with PA or b12 def that was not obvious with blood tests or even anemia and so fell under the radar. Yay!!!x

That's heartwarming news, Brenda !

Sorry to hear that your new GP is struggling with ill-health, but this could be a huge help to him, too. And, already, other patients are benefitting from your research.

Great teamwork !

Really pleased for you . You have had amazing luck with your doctor . Of course it should be like that for everyone with P.A. So many of us have had and still have terrible struggles to get heard That’s why we are enormously pleased to have our P.A.S. Lovely to hear of your success .in New Zealand. Best wishes
