Hi 84withb12d, regular B12 injections may help even if the neuropathy is from other causes. I see the last post you had 3 and were going to get 5 more.

Standard treatment for neurological symptoms (includes numbness, tingling, burning, and any other nerve pain) is every-other-day injections of hydroxocobalamin or daily cobalamin, until symptoms are gone or "stop improving". I know it is difficult to get through the early period after starting treatment, but unfortunately nerves heal slowly. And in the beginning, it can get worse before it gets better.

Gabapentin and Pregabalin are prescription drugs, sometimes given for nerve pain , but that should be discussed with your doctor.

I would personally give the B12 a chance to work, but that requires frequent injections as mentioned above.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. She is taking gabapentin now. May need to go up on the dosage some till the b12 stops the nerve pain.

I bought a pair of Joya trainers as it felt like I was walking on pebbles. They're not cheap, around £180-£200 but they've really helped and have been worth every penny. Please be careful with Gabapentin, when the pain does become under control, they need to be reduced very very slowly over a long period of time.

Yes I’m not crazy about the gabapentin. She’s only taken lowest dose of 100mg per day.

I was prescribed Capsicum cream to rub on the soles of my feet, it is hot though so please tell her to use it sparingly, and also wash hands thoroughly after applying if she was to get it prescribed. Maybe worth a try.

If you Google supplements for diabetic neuropathy you will find suggestions.

B12 is probably the most important and will take time. Are you taking sufficient? Can you up the dose / frequency?

We use Topricin cream. They make a neuropathy foot cream and a general pain relief cream. Its OTC and can be found at Amazon and some pharmacies.
