Hi , new member : Just a quick question... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Hi , new member
Pernicious anaemia is an autoimmune condition.
B12 is usually stored in the liver
.
Depletes if not enough eaten or can't be used due to absorbtion problems, transit problems or lack of Intrinsic factor to process it.
So in my mind ( non medical) not related to liver problems/ disease)
If that is your query ?
There are some reports that correlate certain liver conditions to PA but shown to be very rare. I don't profess to understand the correlation or the cause but I do know there are many different causes of liver conditions and seems it may be hard to sort this out if you have both conditions. Additionally, there are autoimmune conditions that attack the liver many people with one autoimmune condition have and will have others. Some are more prevalent than others such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis of which 40% of those with PA are shown to have.
Here are a couple of reports for your reference:
Pernicious anemia associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
A case of primary biliary cirrhosis associated with pernicious anemia: a case report
casesjournal.biomedcentral....
Hope this helps some.
