After 3 years of B12 injections I suddenly need them more frequently?

Hi all, wondering if anyone else has experienced this or knows what may be causing it.

I’ve been self injecting with rotexmedica hydroxy every 48 hours for almost three years. However in the last couple of months my deficiency symptoms have been creeping in earlier and earlier into that 48 hour cycle, to the point that I now think I should be injecting every 24 hours.

I can’t identify any reason why this could be. My iron and folate levels are good. I haven’t had any type of acute or chronic stress like an infection or new health problem. My B12 phials are all in date! Feeling a bit baffled.

It may be worth thinking again about what is going on in your life, both physically and psychologically. For myself, I know that any overt or more hidden stresses can exacerbate my symptoms. For example, an enjoyable day out that involves driving means 2/3 days of rest to get back on an even keel. It is a chronically limiting condition. If I stay within my limits I'm fine. If I go beyond them I'm not.

Hello, I can see from your bio that you are female (but I can’t see an age) - might you be perimenopausal or menopausal? My symptoms got massively worse upon menopause (and others in this forum have found that too). I have been diagnosed with a functional b12 deficiency (and I also have an autoimmune b12 deficiency), so I suspect that (in my case) the change in hormone levels has contributed to an increasing problem in transporting and using B12 in the body (oestrogen has a protective effect on dna, so maybe B12 issues increase as oestrogen levels decline??). If you also have clear symptoms of perimenopause then it might be worth considering speaking to your doctor about HRT? (As I have wondered whether this will mitigate some of the increasing B12 issues??). Ps I am not a medical professional.

Just a note I am sure you already know this. You can’t treat Your B12 issues unless you deal with your B2 first. So check your vitamin levels. And of course you need to keep an eye on the other co-factors , B9/B11, really all the vitamin B’s ( careful with B6) , potassium and magnesium. You will never feel on top of things totally, it’s like walking a tightrope, you need to find the balance that keeps you right.🤣 I go back to basics when I fall off my rope, start loading again with supplementing vitamin B2 if I can’t get enough from my diet.
