Can B12 deficiency cause pounding heart?
Diana49, I'm certainly no expert, but I do know that B12 deficiency can cause autonomic neuropathy and demyelination. One of the bodily functions controlled by autonomic nerves is heart rate.
I have pernicious anemia, and I struggled with decrease gut motility before I was diagnosed, which is also somewhat controlled by autonomic nerves. When I started getting injections, my gut motility improved.
I hope you find answers and relief very soon! Best wishes
A fast heart rate may be a symptom of vitamin B-12 deficiency. The heart may start to beat faster to make up for the reduced number of red blood cells in the body. Anemia puts pressure on the heart to push a higher volume of blood around the body and to do it more quickly.
Maybe best to discuss this with your Gp I note you also have thyroid issues.
P.s It might be a good idea to check your BP
I had a pounding heart in the early days of treatment. I remember being concerned and explained it to a gp over the phone.
At the time one of many many symptoms .
My ferritin dropped .
Folate remained stable.
Hopefully it will subside soon.
Get your iron levels and ferritin and folate checked on next bloods .
Obviously get it checked out if you are concerned .
It is not my wish to frighten anyone but I was given both a heart monitior and another for my Bp yet still went on to suffer heart failure.
My advice is to always get it checked out especialy if you also suffer with thyroid issues - as I do.
100% b12 deficiency can cause heart -pounding . I used to have episodes of that . Used to feel that I was about to faint . I have diagnosed Pernicious Anaemia. Since getting sufficient B12 injections, ( self-injections ) I get it no longer . No every patient gets it . We are all different with different symptoms .
definitely- one of the signs that reminds me I need to SI
Yes. I had this prior to treatment. It was one of my first symptoms to resolve with injections. This would makes sense as deficiency produces a higher heart rate. My heart rate was consistently around 100 prior to treatment and with injections is around 70-80. It’s no wonder anxiety is a symptom with that higher heart rate.
I used to get a severe heart pounding sometimes, mostly just after going to bed. I was at the clinic for another matter and had blood pressure checked, and with it pulse. On three assessments on the same sitting my pulse rates were 29, 42, 42. The short version is that I got a pacemaker a couple months later, and haven't experienced heart pounding since.
