I did read it and thank you. You have many other strengths Sallyannl, lots of us may find it difficult keeping up with technology. 🤷♀️ .
I knew the ins and outs of B12 deficiency, but I am learning more everytime I hit the google button, and ping more information pops up.
I had hard, swollen legs some years before being diagnosed with B12D. The GP said "adipose deposits no treatments" later they went numb and I lost my balance. Now after many years of B12 injections they are now coming back to life and sometimes they burn, but my balance has not come back.
If I knew how to post a picture of my mothers legs, you would be shocked. My Sister is not far behind with dementia as well.
I am sorry Beginner 2, no one should have to suffer like that
How can we prevent dementia? My big fear.
I wish I knew .... in my sisters case no doubt b12 deficiency has played a part.My only observation is treatment of b12 should be given and not a criteria of b12 treatment.
What is the point of treatment after dementia has taken its toll. Prevention should come first.
Morning. Sadly my wee Mum was only diagnosed with PA once she was already struggling with Small Vessel Disease. She got jabs in the nursing home but not as often as she needed them, sounds familiar right?I have had swollen shins for a few years now so even if I were able to bend (I’m not) the pain of any pressure on them is excruciating. I put it down to an op on my left foot where they attempted to straighten it and pinned my wandering crossed toes into position. The surgery allowed me to get footwear on again but otherwise was not the greatest success. My thoughts on the shins are now changing. It’s very interesting PA as well as brutal. TBH I used to believe it was the least of my worries, the more I learn the more I see that it is not😞 x
That is interesting. I had swollen ankles and feet early on that has gone away over a year ago never to return. I've been injecting for two years now. I never knew what caused that and never correlated it to B12 so it is quite possible that was the cause as my original B12 level was 70 pg/mL.
Thanks for sharing that. Rex
My ankles are the same, So I have increased my B12, and low and behold not returned since.
That's wonderful news!
B12 is that miracle vitamin! it is odd to me that we have evolved to require something so complex in order for us to survive and that affects literally every cell and every system in our body.
Frightening to think that Doctors are so Ignorant of the most complicated vitamin B12.
Scientist, not medic.
Swollen ankles: well, here's my two penn'orth.
On Friday 1st July I had my second Covid booster, no problems. On Saturday 2nd July, I woke to a swollen right foot and ankle, and my right calf was bigger than the left one. I attended hospital for urgent investigation, [?DVT] and the ultrasound found nothing but lymphoedema. In the weeks since, the swelling has gradually retreated, and now, it's barely visible on waking, and comes back a bit during the day. It hasn't stopped me walking. When I asked 'Could it be the Covid booster?' I got some non-committal response of 'it could be, but we can't tell.' But at least it's resolved. It encouraged me to buy some 'soft top' socks, which have been brilliant.
I'm not taking B12, and to my knowledge, my B12 stores are fine.
Typically, I broke my left ankle last year, but that's recovered, complete with titanium implants.
My ankle swelling was purely on my right side, so I didn't immediately panic thinking 'heart failure'.
Curiouser and curiouser, I thought!
Well FlipperTD, Iam No medic, All I can Say is what I have seen and experienced. My friend J who had chrones denied B12, had Covid Jab then stroke, her right leg ballooned, given dementia test, warfarin then B12 Injections and sadly passed away.Again Right Leg, mine was also right leg. Makes you wonder, I can not advise anybody , it is upto the individual what they should Do. At least you have better access to information.
All I can say is research is urgently needed between B12 and Covid /Covid Vaccine.
Wishing you well as always!!!
Flipper TD, by any chance were you given Naproxen, or equivalent .
Perhaps you might like to take a look at Naproxen and Vitamin B12 Deficiency.
Would be interesting !
B12 is associated with 1177 drugs and 652 Conditions. WOW Mind blowing .
Just gone down the List .... Abdominal Aorta Aneurysm .... 5 x Uncles died of this, so that indicates to me that our B12 deficiency is deffinately on my maternal side,
.
Very sorry to hear about your uncles. Yes, there is definitely a hereditary component to PA. For myself it is the paternal side. I am this first in generations to survive this. Sadly even today the "Pernicious" in PA is alive and well and I am certain there are many that have PA and they just don't know it, they are misdiagnosed with something else as I was at the beginning and I am guessing so many other on this form.
Are you able to send me that list of drugs that is associated with B12. That is very interesting. I know of a few things like Metformin (interferes with the absorption), and others like some antibiotics, also nitrous-oxide and chemotherapy destroy B12 in your system.
Sorry I had to revisit sites to get to the right website, then had mysterious happenings in trying to re connect ?????
Anyway here it is : ehealthme.com Vitamin B12.
Be interesting to hear your comments !
I would be interested to know if prednisolone influences B12 absorption.
I have looked, and I think you might want to google prednisolone and b12 deficiency.
All I can suggest to people is google , and If it concerns you perhaps contact your GP.
No Offence intended brainchild, I just highlighted the fact we should do more research of the ins and outs of medications prescribed to us, and keeping a diary has helped.
I hope you find it
helpful.
Thank you! I've not heard of this site. It will take me some time to peruse this but I will certainly let you know my thoughts. At first glance though I think this is a fascinating concept and very valuable.
