I am due my next B12 jab this week but cannot get an appointment until 19th April. Is there anything I can in the mean time to boost my levels?

High dose sublingual B12 or self-injection. If the latter, ask and members may be able to help.

I'm experimenting with Solgar sublingual B-12, and more methyl folate in between in my 'every 2 weeks' injections. I'm doing the sublingual every other day, and I've increased my methyl folate by 2000 mcg a day. I'm due for my regular injection, but am feeling so good I'm going to hold off and see how long I can go. Can you get these over the counter supplements?

Hi,

Some UK forum members get extra injections from private GPs or beauty clinics, some try high dose oral B12 (drops or tablets) and some as a last resort turn to self injection.

How often are you getting B12 injections?

If you're in UK and you have neurological symptoms, my understanding is that you should be getting B12 injections every 2 months.

How many loading injections did you get at the start of treatment?

In UK, patients with neuro symptoms should get a B12 loading injection every other day until symptoms stop improving.

If you were put on the wrong pattern of loading injections in UK when treatment started, you would have a good argument for loading injections to be restarted.

If you're in UK, I'd urge you to track down the local B12 deficiency guidelines for your ICB (Integrated Care Board) or Health Board.

If you can't find them online or by searching forum posts here then best bet is to submit a FOI (Freedom of Information) request to ICB or Health board asking which B12 deficiency guidelines are used locally and for a link to or copy of them.

Some local guidelines in UK are unhelpful. See blog post below.

As far as I know, GPs in UK are allowed to use their professional judgement and prescribe B12 injections more often than guidelines suggest if they feel a patient needs it.

Some UK forum members are told they cannot have B12 injections more often. I think this is because some GPs don't want the hassle of explaining to management/ICB/Health board why they are prescribing them more often.

If you have a PA diagnosis or you suspect PA, have you talked to PAS?

Some links may have details that could be upsetting.

Some of the info will be specific to UK.
