B12 is necessary for the Folate Cycle to run correctly:

The Folate Cycle is essential for DNA and RNA creation and repair, cell division, methylation and other functions critical to life.
Folate is often supplemented when on B12 injections to ensure this process does not stall but this is not necessary if folate levels remain adequate (high normal) during treatment. Many supplement between 200mcg and 400mcg but there is no universally applicable dose, more may be prescribed if a deficiency or absorption/metabolic issue is present, others with a high folate diet and no absorption issues might need even less supplementation, so its quite dependent on the individual, their lab tests and response to the supplementation.
Hopefully your GP has already advised whether you should or should not be supplementing based on the above factors.
