I started off by just walking around the block and very slowly built up over months. If I tried to push it, I ended up exhausted the next day. I think it took about six months before I could walk a few miles.
The most important thing is to listen to your body - if you feel tired, stop before the tiredness turns into bone numbing exhaustion! Otherwise, you'll just end up on the sofa for a few days, which is both counterproductive and frustrating.
Now, years on, I am looking after a very active 2 year old Grandbaby (with another sibling arriving next year) a few days a week and regularly walk 4 miles.
I do get days where all I want to do is sit on the sofa, but it happens less and less now.
Exercise is a category of physical activity with the enhancement or maintenance of physical fitness as its ultimate or intermediate goal. It is planned, systematic, and repetitive. A group of qualities referred to as physical fitness might be either skill- or health-related.
For me my fatigue was not dissimilar to after running a 10 mile road race, only I had not run a race and I did not recover.
I right now use a step counter. If I don't find a way to walk 2250 steps in a day which for me is a mile than I check my daily log and see if I walked too much much over a few days. Last three days I walked about 4 miles each day and will be watching to see if I need recovery and that will tell me I over did it. I did make an error as I was walking much faster due to improvement in my balance and over did it a bit.
I stay away from thinking in terms of walking more steps is a positive as it is not if I experience a down turn.
A mind trick I am using is telling my self I can know how I am doing when I can open water swim in June. Thing with open water swimming is you can only swim too far once.
