Folate research

I came across an article in Medscape that descibes a research project involving folate. The research examined existing data.

Here is the link for the article. I hope it is available to everyone.

medscape.com/viewarticle/98...

Quoted here is the only part of the article that mentions B12 or treatment of B12 deficiency:

The investigators also assessed a negative control group of 236,610 individuals using cyanocobalamin during the study period. Cyanocobalamin is a form of vitamin B12 that is essential for metabolism, blood cell synthesis, and the nervous system. It does not contain folic acid and is commonly used to treat anemia.

I think this might be the same news item Denise posted a few days ago healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po...

The original paper is at jamanetwork.com/journals/ja...

That's great it's getting exposure!

I believe medscape is free for everyone but it still requires you to create a (free) account to read most articles.

FWIW I don't think it's a bad thing thing to post things multiple times. :)

Well I'm glad you posted because somehow I'd missed it first time around. I'm intrigued that they considered cobalamin a negative control. How on earth do you separate the activity of the two? Yet more information which adds to the weight of knowledge which we simply don't properly understand yet, but likely ties back to methylation and neurotransmitters (eg pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/189... Good to see that more research is being done but I hope it gets out to regular use fast.

To me, it was a reflection of the low level of understanding among medical researchers and practitioners of B12 issues in general.
