extraordinarily tired feel like im going to die

Hi

I've posted a lot this week so thanks to all who have been responding.

I cleaned a bit yesterday, hoovered - changed my bedding - had a shower - watered a plant.

I am aching so much and feel like i did a 4 hour hardcore gym session and ran a marathon or something. My body is floppy i have absolutely NOTHING in me. I am tired even by typing this. I cannot believe this kind of exhaustion exists. Its making me feel like i'm going to die.

I have a big thing coming up at the end of september - a 12 week clinical placement for my training in OT. I will have 4 long days of work a week- after a 3 month break - during which i have physically and mentally declined a huge amount. I also have bipolar disorder and spent the summer depressed and isolated, and now physically feeling very much worse for wear. I really need to do this placement i have missed it already twice because of the bipolar.

I know folate and iron have been mentioned as maybe now being low due to the b12 injections. I am going to have to ring the dr's i think and ask for more advice. I can't live like this! I am waiting for IFAB results but pretty sure its going to be a negative.

looking for reassurance and sympathy and someone to play a violin to me lol

It takes time .

Try and get more b12 injections .

If neurological symptons:

Every other day b12 injections until no further improvement

? Consider high dose oral b12 as well .

Address folate ,vit d ,iron and anything else bloods show.

Get referrals if needed to rule out anything else going in.

Thyroid checked .

It will improve.

Thank you! Yes i just did an e-consult form to ask to dr for every other day injections again and further bloods to check iron + folate and after those tests going to take some folate tabs in the mean time nothing major tho as i heard too much is not good? i'm taking vit D spray but good to check that too as it may not be enough. I just need it to get better - rapid decline in health is so scary im only 28 and never had to face anything physical health wise. Hopefully it will improve as i havent had symptoms for very long only just under a year - thanks aganin

Perhaps you are thinking too much as in high dose folic acid. Prrscribed if deficient?

If of child bearing age 400mcg is advised by thr Nhs daily of folic acid

thats good to know ! We are desperately uninformed about womens health as women!

You are doing all the right things - well done!

If you get enough B12 injections and take the right supporting supplements along with a good diet you will feel reasonably well again, I promise.

It might take daily injections and time to heal the damage sustained by the deficiency but you can get to a useful level of fitness again once you do.

See posts by wedgewood for self injecting once you have had some from your Dr.

It will probably help your bipolar too!

100% thanks so much - i was thinking last night my appetite disappeared ages ago and i didnt notice it going so i need to consciously eat 3 balanced meals too and hope that rebuilds my strength too! I slept for 9.5hrs i feel well rested compared to yesterday so thats a good sign! Off to H&B today for supplies and hopefully hear from Dr about more injections until neurological symptoms improve πŸ™πŸ™πŸ’ͺ🏽

Thank you for your reply!

Great to hear you are feeling a bit better today. I'm afraid it's a bit of a roller coaster (not that you'd know anything about that with bipolar πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‚) but the art is managing things so you don't get too tired and broken on any one day.

I'm single and self employed and have to work every day I possibly can to make ends meet so sometimes I have to accept being a bit feral at home (totally goes against my grain - I'd be OCD if I could be! πŸ™„) so I can work, eat and sleep. But I'm good most of the time and I have other issues, besides all my deficiency problems, which have been much more of a problem than the B12 deficiency since I started self injecting 7 years ago.

Well done, keep going and you'll get there!

awe lots going on for you! My mum actually had OCD when i was growing up (she had no choice in the matter let me assure you haha) - it was terrible - it can be such an awful illness. Anyway - yes just gotta roll with it i guess. As a nearly qualified OT you'd think id be able to therapise myself but alas its not the case haha i think health care professionals make the worst patients 🀣 i only began having symptoms about 10 months ago tingling and numbness in my hands i thought it was carpal tunnel. Gradually other symtpms have manifested and i thought it was related to having covid. Oh well! Here we are dealing with it all! Good on us. 😁

I'm sorry you're so young and suffering from PA. In a way, that's good. Catch it early so the neurological symptoms can reverse. The longer it goes untreated, the harder it is for symptoms to correct. Its very scary, so i get it. You do feel like you're dieing. I felt that way for about 3 months. Now I'm almost 5 months into it and dont feel like that unless I over do it. Give it some time. Make sure you're getting enough b12. I take D3 prescription as well. Helps with pain.

I took 1 Folate tablet and didn't feel too good after that. Felt pretty lowsy in fact. Tested my folate a few weeks later and it is high now. It was normal before the one tablet, but heard we should probably take it to help with b12 absorption. Didnt work for me. So maybe check Folate level before taking? I don't feel good if i take folate or iron. Thats just me. And im not a doc or medical person. Just personal experience.

It is frustrating to feel so badly, but it will get better. Especially since you are so young. You will have to really take care of yourself but it's good to find out sooner than later. You're doing all the right stuff. Don't push yourself. If you're tired, you should rest. Sometimes, it just takes 15 minutes of rest to feel better. I take lots of short rests.

Im sure being 28 and not well is hard when you're friends are perfectly fine and living life. You will get there. It takes time.

thanks so much ellanore - yes its definitely a new one! Not certain it is PA but it is highly likely. It is lucky its been quick to be honest and that my GP were on it with testing for my b12 when i presented with what i thought was carpal tunnel. Ok so i will wait for folate levels - just to be certain. I do feel dramatic saying i feel like im dying but god its true! Will have to look after myself well as you say, tho i already have a severe and enduring mental illness so its nothing new in some ways but annoying to have additional challenges on top! God i am laying on thick here with a sob story haha! πŸ˜¬πŸ˜†

You are entitled to your sob story. 😊 I definitely thought I was dieing. Bipolar can not be easy either. Hopefully, you see a positive change in that with b12. B12 is a little miracle worker. That is great your GP was on it. Stick with them. Good luck honey. You've got a good attitude and sense of humor. πŸ¦‹

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder type two - this means depression mostly with periods of high activity yet no psychosis. Mine went when I started on EOD injections and hasn't returned. None of the antidepressants worked and lithium just smeared all feeling. Hope you get sorted.

awe im glad your symtoms have gone away now. I had my first episode at 14 leaving me in hospitql for 2 years i missed 3 years of secondary school. Have had psychotic manias so bipolar 1. Am stabilised on 2 anti convulsants as i have very rare side effects from anti psychotics and lithium - terrible side effects. Bipolar is literally a mad one, my whole life has been turned upside down - i have long episodes year after year. Everything falls apart. Have been so mentally tormented. I do think they should test all MH patients for this deficiency due to the neuropsychiatric symptoms it causes im curious to see if any symptoms improve tho after enough injections πŸ₯°

My mother was treated for biploar for many years. I sympathise with you. It is a terrible affliction. Since discovering I have PA I have carried out a great deal of research into B12D. One of lesser know symptoms of B12D is bipolar disorder. I now wonder if my mum had PA. She had other symptoms that definitely were related to B12D.

I have personally experienced the psychotic effect of B12D. I was becoming very paranoid. Which resolved very quickly when I started B12 supplementation. When my GP erroneously advised me to stop taking B12 because my levels were dangerously high the paranoia was the first symptom of B12D to reappear.

ozwald28 profile image
ozwald28 in reply to charks

yes paranoia is certainly an unpleasant one! Glad youve managed to figure out the cause and its managed. I cant disentangle my MH from this to be honest have been suffering since i was so young and physical symptoms only just appearing. I also am traumatised so i guess my mind was almost destined to be a bit messy 🀣
