Well, I got my intrinsic factor test back just now. It is positive! why am I happy about this? I guess I feel now that there is absolutely no question and that I have a definitive answer for what has plagued me most of my life. I actually feel relieved that I have pernicious anemia. How crazy is that🤪

Not Crazy at all ! Just confirmation of what you have been saying for all these years. Perhaps they altered your records after getting your results, Now altered, and now given you the news. !!!

Thanks Sallyannl, I'm so relieved!! Haha I wouldn't put it past them, but I don't think with this. I only took the test yesterday so this is the official first release. Can you believe it? I'm so happy?! That's crazy.

You can be happy with that result . As long as you get the amount of B12 injections that you need , you can stay healthy for the rest of your life! If your doctors don’t let you have what you need , there is a way out . Champagne is called for ! But a cup of tea will do ! VERY PLEASED FOR YOU !

So liberating, Might even have educated some doctors

Congrats EllaNore! One bit of advice get a print out of that result and guard it because believe me you’ll prob need it in the future.Once you get that positive result it’s indisputable as far as your concerned, you should never have to do that again because the odds are stacked against you that you’ll get another positive result.

Well done, use that info to your advantage now and find that treatment regime that suits you.best of luck xx

Thanks so much! OK I will do that! thanks so much Happypensionclub. I do feel like it is a badge of truth. A badge of proof. That result carries the weight of all my/our years of suffering doesn't it? It kind of feels like it is an evil guardian angel.

Is it also crazy to say "Congratulations !" ?Keep that evidence and frame it.

Now just ensure they never, ever test it again !

Thrilled for you.

I’m so happy for you! It’s never a happy thing when a chronic illness is diagnosed, but in the case of PA sufferers it’s such a relief when you have confirmation from a lab result. It’s just so unfortunate that the accuracy of the IFAB test can’t be improved and give accurate results 100% of the time.

Here we go again... Scientist, not medic. Leave the poor IFAb test alone; it's trying its best!

If it wasn't accurate, then we wouldn't use it. The test is accurate. Keep on doing the same sample over and over, and you'll get the same answer. So it's pretty precise too. The problem is that the test does its best but if there aren't IFAb antibodies there, it can't detect them. As we probably all know nowadays, with Covid etc, antibody titres rise and fall, and if they're there in sufficient quantity, we'll detect them.

The only decent tests we've had were the Schilling tests, but they required radioactive cobalt labelled B12, [which came from a reactor] and animal-derived Intrinsic Factor, [which came from a slaughterhouse.] When Mad Cow Disease reared its head, then slaughterhouse by-products became somewhat less popular. The manufacturers stopped producing the kits, and it's easy to understand why.

As an aside, even though it was a very good test, it could still be done wrong, and give the wrong answer. But that's another story that I won't spell out on here!
